Can anyone please explain what the "Show Cause" language in a coaching contract is? My understanding is that its essentially legal jargon that allows the school to terminate a coach without paying the buyout IF said coach does something to tarnish the brand/name of the university... such as cheating on your wife with your assistant and crashing your motorcycle on a country road...

But, wouldn't there be more damage done to the university and its finances if say, I don't know, YOU LOSE TO frickING TROY?!?!?!?!

If you hire someone who is simply incapable of doing the job up to standards, you are still on the hook for paying a buyout as you made the decision to hire them.

If it were possible to avoid a buyout just because your coach is losing more than you'd like, there'd be a lot of coaches across the country without a job at the moment.

unless the school can prove he's doing it intentionally, there's a big difference.

In addition to the above. It is an ethical clause regarding professional conduct. In no way shape or form is it ever performance driven.

I would say it has to do with embarrassing the brand and performance cannot be considered a factor.

However, naming his LLC “O the Rosy Finch Boyz....”

All of what was said above, plus, the last thing you want is for LSU to do something unethical. That could get nasty, and would do serious damage to LSU's ability to attract a top-notch coach.

So what we need is someone to hack his phone and have Les hire an attorney

Some type of minor infraction that would get the NCAA sniffing around might be sufficient to clean house with no buyout.

Surely O has a few skeletons in his closet, it's just up to someone to bring them to light.

Where's Team Sweep? We need a reverse sweep.

So you end up paying the buy out and the legal costs when he sues you.

Joe has obligated the university for at least two more years.

What if a coach did something clearly unethical and perhaps against SEC/NCAA rules, like, for example, letting a star player avoid a 3rd positive drug test by briefly leaving the team? Just for example, not that this really happened. But if it did, would that be enough "cause"?

Or someone in the athletic department can borrow his phone a few times and call a bunch of hookers.

Said player was forced to go to rehab in Opelousas... for pot. A little over the top for pot. I guess O wants all of his guys to be teetotalers.

Interesting, do tell? You didn't just come up with this out of thin air?

Miles didn't give a damn about pot, rightfully so... O having been a bar brawler with a number of problems plays Mr Disciplinarian when it comes to pot.

Basically put Arden in his truck and drove him up to good ol Opelousas. Only reason I know this, sadly, is because my brother was in there with him for those damn pain killers.
