I know hindsight is 20/20 but damn

No. Guidry and Sheerin aren’t going to pitch on the same night often, if at all. Guidry closes on Fridays and might be available on some Sundays. Sheerin is your Saturday closer. Jay rarely pitches guys on back to back nights unless they only throw a couple of pitches. You pitch them both tonight and then you don’t have either tomorrow.
With all that said, Guidry is the guy we need in that spot. If he can’t save it, we have bigger problems … which we do.

You pitch to win game 1 when Schmidt is your Sunday starter and gives you an advantage over every other SEC team on Sunday.
Schmidt would be a Friday starter on most SEC teams.

Plog should've come in for the lefty
But it's hindsight. These are the things you're supposed to learn about your team in mid-march. Jay won't repeat that mistake

I thought the same, but it's whatever.

Yeah, I mean once it got to 2 outs and a lefty batter I think that would have been the time to go to a lefty. Only because I was worried Guidry would serve up a bomb.

I thought they should've rode Cowan for another inning, or at least tried. Then, you go to Guidry in the 9th with his hair on fire. Instead, he came in the 8th with all the juice then fizzled in the 9th.
Probably for another thread, but I didn't understand going to Reeves, especially that early. I'd rather have stuck with Caraway or gone to Pearson.
I think those are 2 decisions that could have changed the game. You can't give up that many free passes and win. On the other hand, Vandy gave up alot of free passes, wild pitches, and passed balls too so it comes down to having to play around those things. Very sloppily pitched game on both sides. Vandy just came up with 1 more big swing than us.

I'm actually okay with them pulling Cowan. He had a huge game and maybe that'll help get his confidence back. If they'd have pushed it too far and lost with him on the mound then it would feel like that performance was meaningless. Now Cowan gets to go home believing that if Jay had left him in they'd have won the game and maybe that'll pay off in the long run
