Like I said, I will be watching myself but I'd rather things be largely kept under wraps for competitive reasons.
All for the media and fans. aTm cancelled theirs for two yrs due to stadium construction so it proves you can do the same thing on the practice field under concealment...

showing the fan base two hours of scrimmage will do little to calm down the rhetoric
Pretty sure Les has 10 years experience of not giving a shite about what people on TD think. Just saying.
Also, I take my grandfather every year to the spring game. He doesn't move around very well and can't handle going to games with 90-100K people there. So I vote yes for the spring game.

For some, it their only chance to play in Tiger Stadium in front of their family and fans.
It also gives the coaches a chance to see live action with some new guys. Like me, there are some people who are just gamers and this gives them the chance, however vanilla, to see that. Scrimmages might not get the same feel as a televised game does.

So much disrespect in this thread. Mike is an American Hero

Even though I don't really care for it, it is a popular event. I say no...

It could be more gimmicky like having Mike Leach or Scott Frost come and call plays

Ha! Thanks Dodd.
I have yet to see anyone argue that the spring game is valuable to the performance of the team in the Fall except for (A) a chance for recruits to attend and (B) one poster who tried to argue that, because it is televised and there are a couple thousand fans there, the coaches get to see how players will react.
I think both of those are strained arguments.
Ultimately, the Spring game is about the fans and giving them Tiger football for two hours right in the middle of 8 months of no Tiger football. I get it. That's why I can't wait to see it, even though 45 minutes into it I will realize it's pretty boring.
In the end, I think Les would prefer it be done away with, but since everyone else does it, he can't. We can agree to disagree, but I still would rather the team practice by itself all Spring (and Fall camp too) without much scrutiny from the media (and fans).

I see very little upside to it. Even if very vanilla, you are giving your opponents additional tape.
Yea id rather keep fournette left, fournette right, and a laughable amount of incompletions kept under wraps.

No it's not. High schools have spring football and spring games / scrimmages. It's much more than just a ploy to appease fans and the media and all that. Do the fans like it? Sure. But it's more than just something the fans like.
It's impossible to recreate a game type of atmosphere. The spring game is the closest thing to that. It helps simulate that game type of atmosphere and pressure that you only get during games. I'm not saying it is the same because it's not, but it's the closest thing to it. And it's 1 of the few times, maybe even only time, that the players get to go full speed vs an opponent in a game type of atmosphere.
And the players like it. It's a chance for them to get out there and show what they can do in a game like setting to the fans. It would suck if spring football was just 3weeks of practice and closed scrimmages and all that. They wanna show the fans that they have improved and are taking the next step in their game and all that.
What's that saying... "Competition breeds success." This helps with that. This is a chance for them to compete agaianst other players at full speed and in a game type of atmosphere.

Yea I highly doubt this.

LM said its not going to be much to watch ... and for the first time in a long time I BELIEVE HIM !!

Posted on 4/16/15 at 9:15 pm to Mike Linebacker
If you feel that strongly about it, don't watch.

You didn't play ball did you? College players don't think the spring game means shite.
Posted on 4/16/15 at 11:00 pm to Jonathan Ikon
Pretty sure a good bit of the players do give a shite. Agree or not, it gives them another chance to prove themselves to the coaches.

They get the same chance everyday in practice and every other intra-team scrimmage. Quit being naive. We all like the spring game as fans but it literally may be the most wasted two hours of the entire evaluation period.

I have read of many dumb things on this board and this ranks right up there with one the dumbest, congrats

You gotta love it when 44 year old "plant managers" call others idiot for having a different opinion.

We've been running the same plays for years. Not much to hide my man.
All signs indicate we are changing up the defense, so that was a stupid comment.
However, I can assure you that none of our opponents are going to get much out of spring practice tapes. If we were playing a competitive opponent in the first game then our coaches would really hide stuff. By the time we do play a good team they'll have actual game tape.
