what that short passing game will do is make the defense adjust to try to shut it down. once that happens Fournette will run wild and the long passing game will open.

Why do coaches have "play action passes" and how often do we see linebackers being sucked into the line? Linebackers play alot with their instincts, regardless of what they are taught, especially in college.

I...agree?

I mean first of all Harris might not even start... And second, I mostly disagree with that.. I'm tired of seeing the short pass game we always go with because we usually can't complete a dang pass. We rarely go deep and really need to more often especially because of the attention our backs will cause for the opposing team's defense. And we better be done with those stupid bubble screens. Dumbest play ever and never works when we do it

Their instincts come from what they are taught and practice. When coaches say that a linebacker is instinctive its because the lb'er isn't thinking about their reads anymore and having a relay in their game, they are reacting to their reads without a hesitation.
Play action passes aren't meant to have linebackers crash the line. It's to freeze them or get them flat footed but once again that has zero to do with a short passing game unless its a bootleg.

No man. Not a single bit of it.
1) BH will absolutely 100% start and finish the season barring injury. b) thats all we do is throw deep.

The best way to keep a defense honest, so they don't load the box and blitz, is the short passing game. Bama dared us to do it last year and in 2011 BCS title game.
IIRC Bama killed LSU in NCG with hi-lo triangle combos like smash and most of the short stuff was hot, not design.

I cannot recall LSU running anything like this in the last 3 years. Alabama ran it at least 4 times in this game alone,
I don't think that play was called from the sideline. I think it relies on the QB and WRs recognizing the defense and calling an audible. You need an experienced QB for that.

Here's a little reality on the human side...CLM loves being the head coach at LSU...and he really likes the people that work for him...anyone who thinks that he will jeopardize everything that he loves and enjoys in order to just be hard headed is a complete arse and a fool of monumental proportions!!!!!! He will do everything offensively he is allowed by the abilities of the QBs on the roster...!st out of the box...BH...if he has not developed enough, 2)Etling...if he can get it done, fine...if not 3)McMillan...next up!!!!!

Man, basketball tanks. Baseball slips and then the attack turns to football.
Leave Harris alone. Jesus, give the kid a chance. He is ours. More experienced. BTW don't compare anyone to the JJ sh&@ show that we all have burned in our brain. The confused look. Good God.
He is not that. He is better. Give 3-4 games and then bump this post.

The reality of the entire Universe is a violent competition for existence...live with it...it's not ever going to change...BH is not going to be given anything this year...he's going to have to compete for it!!!!
Posted on 4/7/16 at 8:51 pm to Phil2012
I live with it everyday and do quite well in the "violent competition" myself. No bleeding hearts here.
I don't expect anything to be given to the kid. He's our best option and if you disagree with that, I can't help your ignorance on the subject.
If he struggles significantly, give someone else a chance. We don't love and die with him but as I stated in my earlier post "give the kid a few games".

And when I said "he is ours". That meant he is our best chance. Not that we are stuck or have to live with him, but he's our starter and was last year.
Can we watch a few games before we unleash the hounds???

Instincts are not taught. Tell me, on a read option, why does the defensive end so often go for the fake handoff, running towards the guard/ tackle gap, then the QB takes off around the end. It's because a QB can wreak havoc on a defense. Play action pass does the same thing. It's because a smart offensive game plan can force a defense in to making stupid mistakes. Like being able to check down on blitzes and get the ball out quickly on a short pass, when there is no time for s deep pass. This is what we must learn to execute.
Posted on 4/7/16 at 10:15 pm to GoDeepCoach
It's more difficult in the NFL because defense players are so knowledgeable, but in college a smart offense/QB can make them look stupid. Don't do what they expect.

This. Imagine what LF could do if the defense can't tell if the FB and TE is setting a block or going out for a 5 yard pass. Instead of stacking the box, they'd have to stay honest.
Agree. But We have way too many talented WRs to keep playing a TE and a fullback. And too many talented running backs. Buga and guice should be on the field at the same time at least a few snaps each game.
It puts so much more pressure on a defense. Makes them have to cover so much more. Having a FB allows the defense to pin their ears back and only focus on buga
Having FBs and guys like foster and Gordon on the field over guice/Williams and chark Johnson and others is unacceptable IMO.

I agree. Spread them out. Fast guys. Screens everywhere with one on one match ups. Guice or LF7 or Chark or TE. And medium to deep throws with big, tall fast receivers. That's the balance we need. That will make the running game much better. Keep the defense honest. That's how we will beat Bama this year. Use the whole field. Throw on first down more. Mix it up. Keep em flat footed.

But I also believe LF7 behind our fullbacks with our OL is a big "piece", as CLM would say. We have many weapons. Use them proportionately. Throw when they think your going to run and run when they think you'll throw (simplified version u know). Keeping the defense honest and guessing is what's needed. Other teams do it, why can't we. I think this year we will.
