Intro: I think Grant is the best player on D in the country this year. Thanks Moffit for all the hard work getting our kids ready. Excited about 2019 class. DS and AI huge impacts already. Thomas will compete for G spot. JE and TDP will compete for RB spot. Palmer is one of the fastest kids in the country. "Block out Noise" "I do believe will have very good season" Talks up Joe Brady as a game changer and him and CSE work very well together. We are a spread. Did not run JB like we wanted to but this year we will. Mb is 212lbs and will play "significant time" and I hope he acts like "a starter" and Peter Parrish will get some snaps as well. JJ and JC are great route runners and TM has come into his own and SS will play TE. RB we are sold.
Best group of DBs he's coached in 35 years. KLC is back, good rotation on DL. ST looks good. Excited for Cade York.

Q1: How will ATM game be?

A1: After last year the rivalry got better. I am looking forward to it as are the players. We felt we should have won 3-4 times but we will fix the issues from that game.

Q2: JB's physicality and the offense?

A2: If Joe wanted to hit a brick wall he would. He plays like a LB. He adds an element to the O, we want to be 50/50.

Q3: Thoughts on Tommie Robinson and Peter Parrish

A3: Peter Parrish will be a great Qb for us, fits our RPO. CTR is a great man, couldn't replace him.

Q4: Devonta Lee from Amite

A4: Battle in Amite. "we got the best player from that team" "he and his family wanted to be at LSU" It does mean a lot to get an amite kid.

Q5: Summarize your time at LSU

A5: Last year we were 2 plays from being 12-1. Cant make same mistakes as UF and aTM games. Big games against UGA and AU. Played bad against Mama. Gotta answer the bell.

Q6: Pete jenkins and Robinson

A6: Both of these guys are mentors for me. I can ask how'd you do XYZ and they help me a lot. "invaluable"

Q7: Threat of up-beat spread and how it goes against our D

A7: We will run the spread "its in the playbook" some physicality is lost due to personnel change. We will have jumbo personnel for short yardage.

Q8: JB from year 1 to 2

A8: He won the job and the team. after UGA the team really believed in him. He's had the whole off-season and he is a tremendous leader. Reminds me of Cajun Cannon as a leader. He's tough and great leader.

Q9: Joe Brady hire and gelling with team

A9: He came over with the Saints last summer to talk RPO and red zone O. He did a great job. "I've always wanted Saints passing game" When Sullivan retired I wanted Joe. HE been great since he's been at LSU.

Q10: Beating UCF and shutting them up

A10: Meant a lot to win 10 games and NY6 bowls. great team, fought hard.

Q11: Areas on D needing to fix.

A11: gave up too many rushing yards, need better tackles, gap filling, pressure on QB with 4 rushers, TFL, 2 minute O, better D on deep balls, more turn overs.

Q12: Culture of grit and tough players.

A12: Recruiting character, lead by example. Too many red flags we don't recruit. We practice hard, builds character and great players.

Q13: In year 3 how have you evolved as a coach

A13: I have grown a lot. We proved we can win. I have a better staff than I have ever had. They are experts in their position groups. Gotta get better at LOS on both sides. Not coaches fault, gotta play better.

Q14: 2020 class good across the country Why?

A14: We have a national brand. I have people reaching out from across the country saying they want to play here. In DC we have 3 kids already and might end up with 5. SEC is the best so its an easy sell for these kids nation wide.

Q15: thoughts on Scott Woodard hire

A15: He's from LA, great in recruiting, best AD I've ever been around. He's into recruiting, he knows all kids on our board and made suggestions to me. "Works his tail off to make sure we have everything we need to win NC"

Q16: Peter Parrish culture adaptations

A16: Peter camped and we offered after he left and he committed. I look forward to August when we can coach him up. Will have a great career for us.

Q17: Transfer portal- roster management

A17: I'm against the portal. Certain kids will transfer but kids need to stick it out 400 kids in portal. Not good for education of the kids. Should transfer after spring and should be eligible when kid enter portal. Roster management is very important with 25 signees and 85 limit.

Q18: Great leaders on Dline can they win for us?

A18: "I will be coaching more on the dline than last year" This year we will be much better at rushing, sacks, TFL, and playing better

Q19: Michale Divity at ILB

A19: He's tough, can diagnose plays, plays hard, wants t win, play in NFL, strong and physical.

Q20: Tyler Shelvin-weight, development and how key is he this year

A20: Tyler is 340 now. He's worked hard on weight, his game, and his education. Tyler and Ika are competing for spot and that helped him. Either can start.

Q21: Transfer contributions JB-CT

A21: Im for grad-transfer. JB and CT are great examples of this. QBs can only play one at a time and if they can leave and play, let them.

"Thanks and Go Tigahs"

Please excuse any typos and short hand. Lots to keep up with. Any questions on translations for something or clarification, let me know. I'll do what I can. Hope this helps those that missed it.

I took biggest note when he said he was going to take on more of a coaching job along the dline and they were going to be more of a attacking dline and have a 4man dline front...

Am I wrong and did I interpret that right? Does the 4man front mean we will have a 4-3 again at times or will we still play the 3-4 and have a olb blitzing or someone playing on los every down?

No you nailed it. He made it clear he will be a much bigger presence at practice on the Dline and we will be a better group and will have a 4 man front, as in 3 line man and KLC coming off strictly for pass-rush/back-field disruption.

He obviously is clueless. Moffit has our WRs locked in a closet somewhere.

Wrong.. being balanced and physical can come from any formation. Think Ezekiel at OSU.. Think Herman with that qb at Houston. Russel Wilson and Lynch were very physical and ML ran downhill with physicality from a lot of spread looks. Balance is important. Our RB’s may end up being the strength of the offense. Ya don’t just throw because your in spread look. You can also spread things out with 2 TE and be physical. I believe that’s what he means when he says 50-50. Just a term for balance. 56-44 pass run is consider balanced and in Os mind that’s balance or “50-50”. Imo.

Why does wanting to be balanced not make any sense?

Plenty of offenses are great and they''re not 50/50 run/pass. That's such an antiquated viewpoint on offense. What's the reasoning behind wanting a 50/50 run/pass distribution? Does it make your offense better, or is he just saying that because that's what someone told him a long time ago?

I think Mike Leach stated it perfectly:

quote:

"There's nothing balanced about 50 percent run, 50 percent pass, because that's 50 percent stupid," the WSU coach said Monday. "What is balanced is when you have five skill positions, if all five of them are contributing to the offensive effort in a somewhat equal fashion that's balanced."

"But this notion that if you hand it to one guy 50% of the time and then you throw it to a combination of two guys the other 50% of the time then you're really balanced, you're really delusional."

James Moran was there doing updates on twitter. He even has some quotes from Jeaux, Cushenberry and Grant.

James is in Hoover. Follow him and this account throughout the day

Grant Delpit: popular guy

quote:

A partial list of things that stood out to Joe Burrow as being different in Louisiana:

- The heat
- The open container laws
- People will make fun of you for eating salad in public

LSU QB Joe Borrow here in Hoover. Note the Roadrunner socks

Leach isn't saying what you think he's saying.

What do you think he's saying?

I think he's saying adhering strictly to 50/50 run/pass distribution for the sake of being "balanced" is a ridiculous concept.

He's saying:

Pass/run is irrelevant.
