Not so much in the first few weeks according to updates. Just please stop with the excuses. People are way too subjective with their assessment of DE to date. It's always the somebody else's fault that his numbers are bad and lack of production occur.
The Oline was horrible. The WR's drops. The wind changed. The previous QB had the same issues was equally inconsistent and many of you were the same ones saying these same things about him. DE is just not that good as of yet.
Sure he can rah rah and take a hit that he put on himself by trying to run people over, but that's about where it stops. He has as many overthrows as any QB since Mett.
Hopefully when this is all said and done, either DE will have made the giant leap or continue to stay the same and someone else takes the job. He's a team player, he'll still cheer them on right?

I like what I've seen from the top 3. It would interesting to see how things would shake out, if they took equal reps. Honestly, it's not even close.

Danny Etling - Not his most impressive day, Etling was solid. It appeared that formations were "base" sets while he was in the scrimmage. Danny's biggest asset today "appeared to be his command of the offense. It is clear that he has a firm understanding of what Canada wants to do."
Its one thing when a commentator says things like this but when you read it from a fan it doesn't exactly inspire confidence

Nothing is going to happen in practice that will change the fact that Etling goes into the season as the starter. Practice may show that one or more of the guys looks ready to unseat him as the starter, but they would have to prove it in actual games. Etling has 2 + years of DI experience. They're not going to trust a redshirt or true frosh with the keys to the Ferrari based on practice.
So relax. Nothing is going to change before BYU kickoff. Etling is and will be the starter and they'll go from there.
FYI, I hope one of the young guys emerge and win the job in the first half of the season without the offense melting down and losing games. A young star QB means no QB transitions for 2/3 years minimum. If Etling does well and holds the job all year then they have to break in a new guy next year.

I disagree that his experience is valuable. With 4 years of college football behind and starting 2 seasons worth of games have not made him any better than when he first started. Most of his stats have not improved or improved very little which is still very low in terms of what you want out of a starter a top program.
I agree that he still has the as the returning starter usually does, but I am not confident his play can get any better at this point. The season can't get here soon enough.

It's easier to come in as a new QB in an established offense where at least everyone else knows job and where they should be. Now it's a whole new system should somewhat diminish the experience factor(Sr) or "level the field" as no LSU QB has seen it much.
In short I guess general experience is valuable, but I doubt he knows this O much more than the other QBs.

Anyone who says Etling wasn't a huge improvement from the garbage I paid for to see in Lambeau is nuts. The kid could win us 10 games this year. Hopefully more.

It doesn't mean another QB couldn't grasp the new O and do as much or more, with better deep ball, making D defend 11, etc.
I leave it to the staff to make that determination instead of having "my champion" though.

Would love to see Devin White carry the ball at RB

Not trying g to be a dick, but you said you weren't there, but answer questions like you were there.
You say the defense was much improved and the dline stepped up, but seems like they had trouble against our rbs.
I guess I don't get how the dline can be in the backfield every play, yet rbs are breaking ling runs and one "went off".

The other half of the equation is reading the defensive alignments and having the ability to check into something better. Tough for an inexperienced QB to be better than Etling at that, which is why I never understood why Miles would never find an occasional drive for our backups.

"Didn't make it today. Friend and his son were there." A recruit's pop, gave me his thoughts (in the original post). Last week I stated here that I would post if I heard anything. Some of additional post may be based upon my-pre-Saturday observations.

The impression I got was that though the RBs had a couple of good runs here and there, it was nothing like the success they had the previous two scrimmages (according to "FBdad"). So, these statements aren't mutually exclusive.

Hadnt seen much of Fournette this spring. He had a good day.
Hey just posting what I was told. Thanks for reading the post.

OFFENSIVE LINE Up and down day for these guys. Pass and Run protection was hit or miss.
Patched together last year. KJ Malone says they lack physicality, however the excuse is there was no depth along the OL.
Major key to a championship season or .500 season will be LSU's OL

Be awesome to see him go off. Shows these young men that hard work with direction pays off. Pay your dues and do you part. Really hoping to see good things from him. He seemed to get more comfortable after getting pushed around in that UF game.
When he filled in after Beckwith was hurt, UF just ran down our throats without a stocky LB in like Beck or White.
