Went back and watched the game…it was maybe more painful the second time around. There were so many blitzes in the game, why the hell did we not try a screen pass one single time??

Because we have a terrible O line. You think they could execute a screen?? They couldn’t run block which is basic oline skill.

Was wondering the same thing. I watched Notre Dame execute a few to perfection against Florida State when they were bringing the heat.

While I agree that our OL was getting manhandled in run blocking, blocking on screen passes is a different skill set as it requires blocking in the open field rather than phone booth strength and leverage. Our OL may not be able to do either but seems like it’s at least worth a shot.

What does it matter the 3-7 yard dump play was there all night.

Don’t really need them to block it 9 UCLA defenders are screeching into the back field like they were all night and we can get the screen past them.

Basically, the 3-7 yard dump play was the screen. Meaning UCLA was playing over the top, and rushing an extra guy. They gave up the 3-7 yard dump.

Yea even the wr screen was wide open which actually takes less oline blocking

well we did try at least one. It almost went the other way for a pick 6. That said, had it not been batted down, Boutte was taking it to the house.

I mentioned this as well on an instagram fan page. I don't remember if we could have pulled off a draw play or shovel pass, but the screen was there. Hell they were blowing by the line anyway.

Screens aren't the only way to beat blitz.
However, we didn't see much of these either.

LSU trying too hard to throw for 20 yards instead of taking the short stuff UCLA was giving up. Which led to stalled drives and max facing more pressure than needed.
