Can anybody explain, from a football scheme perspective, why LSU is having nightmares in the screen game? In theory, screen games slow down the rush and should help poor OL teams, like LSU. However, our screen game is not just bad, it is atrocious. The best screens we produce are incompletions. When we do complete, there is no where for the back to do. Is this just our OL being unable to block in space, WRs, etc?

Ensminger cannot teach it right.

Plus, he's too chickenshit to SPREAD, thus too many defenders hang around in the box.

2 things imo:

1. We only attempt on 3rd and long and other teams know it's coming especially when we're in conservative mode.

2. We don't sell it. It looks like a screen from the first second. They're not taught to block or act like it's another play before releasing.

No one on the offense runs it well. The QB doesn’t sell it or time it well to let it develop, RB doesn’t let his blocks set up, and the OL doesn’t really block anyone down field. Comes down to poor instruction.

If Arkansas sniffed it out every time then there's something glaringly obvious that's been identified on film study that gives it away.

It's not only that they're not good at it, it's that they're doing something to tip the opponent off as well.

This is the fricking dumb answer you get for asking a technical question on here. Ensminger is too chicken shite. Retarded bastard. Why don’t you say I’m not sure why cause I’m not smart enough to think anything less than he’s a dumbass. Stupid fricks.

Another thing to consider is that screens work best against blitzes and aggressive pass rushers. Teams have been getting pressure on Burrow without needed to blitz much (seems like it, i have no data to confirm). In that scenario, the defense only has 3 guys pushing into the backfield and everyone else is still in the base defense waiting on it.

. This is the correct answer.

I thought I remembered UGA eating us up with the screen in Sabans last year. Could be thinking about the seccg in 05.

I thought it was Bama in like 2002 that screened us to death right before halftime. That was Francione.

LSU needs to do some self scouting on this to a very detailed degree. Something/someone (or even more likely multiple someones) is/are telegraphing it completely.

On the last one we threw yesterday there were two unblocked defenders who tackled our RB as soon as he caught it for a loss. If you have two defenders you aren't fooling enough to even remotely block, something is wrong.

On this one there was a nice chance of good yards. Chase was too passive and missed the block. This one had a chance of big yardage. Not sure our young wife receivers block very well just yet.

I would hope Chase isn't blocking two defenders, because even if he takes care of one, the other still makes an immediate tackle.

2 - even if thats the case, thats just poor play design. Ingram scored on a screen today for the saints where the WR cleared the DB out across the field on a route vacating a ton of space. Why the heck is our guy trying to block someone that close to the actual play? He should be dragging him away from the space?
