this. Ridley was an excellent back. A perfect mix of quickness, power, and elusiveness, esp at 235# Ridley was the main reason we won the Tennessee game. That was all will power, because our line got no push on that play. There was a reason LSU was the #1 team in 4th down conversions, at 11-12

Ridley was rare in the fact that he was effective in any formation. He could line up as the single back and work the 3&4 gaps. He could line up a FB and work the dives & the play action passes to the flat. He could dot the i and punish the defense, or he could line up as the lone shotgun back and work the inside and outside zone reads.

Somebody knows football. For all the neysayers, rewatch some tape. How many times did this "big back" either cause the first tackler to completely whiff(often unblocked) or fail to make a solid hit?

I hope Ridley does really well. I'm just saying I wouldn't take him in the 3rd round when you could get a guy with similar production in college later in the draft or as an UDFA

What do you want me to acknowledge? That Ridley wore down a crappy Vandy team in the 4th Quarter?

These are so repetitive, its not really funny. You described a solid running back. No disputing that.

Basically someone that can give you 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust. Excellent is a strong word. You basically just described a 1 dimensional running back. A good short yardage back with decent hands.

doesn't get drafted in the 3rd round by one of the best drafting programs in the NFL.

yet he was the 2nd RB they picked and will be utilized as such

coincidental I guess

BTW they always have a slew of picks. They can afford to gamble.

A) thats a great number for NFL RB. That is not good for an elite CFB running back

B) his YPC is significantly lower against teams with a pulse. Check them against some of the good SEC Defenses we faced last year. MSU, Alabama, Florida, Auburn

I'm not going to talk bad about ridley..... dude waited his turn, and had a really productive season.

But can someone please bump or link a pre-cotton bowl thread when everyone thought he wasn't going to play? some of the same people defending ridley were probably quick to say "we don't need him anyway".

I don't really have an opinion. Ridley is gone. congrats for being drafted in the third round. We should return a more talented backfield this season, with less experience.

what is there to even argue about?

Im not talking bad about him either. But some people act like he isnt replaceable and was one of the best RBs in LSU history.

im just talking reality here. Not some fantasy land. Some people bash me, so I guess they perceive that i am bashing him. they are stupid inbreds, likely from the Magnolia state.

Not even close to being in the Top 10 IMO.

Its safe to say that Ridley surprised most (every???) LSU fan. I followed him closely thru his HS years and expected alot from him, but 1st team SEC ??? Nope !!! Again, he surprised me by going in the 3rd round in this year's draft. About the coming year.... Ford has not shown a great work ethic and probably be the 3 rd back behind Ware and Blue. Ware's running style worries me about getting hurt. Like Lattimore (SC) he says on his feet and squirms out of arm tackles, but by doing so, opens himself up for hits that he can't protect himself from. Blue is solid and a Miles favorite. We will see... I expect we all will miss Ridley more and more as the season progresses.

I haven't read this whole thread, but this has probably already been mentioned. Ridley was "Hesteresque".

Very few tackles for a loss, very few turnovers, good hands, extremely good blocker. Trusts his line (ie, runs where he's supposed to run instead of dancing around trying to turn every play into a 20+ yarder). He's a poor man's Trent Richardson, and he will be missed.

No one is criticizing Ridley. Personally, i'm glad that we had Ridley, and he did perform very well. Running back is the single strongest position LSU has on the depth chart though. Ridley was a division 1 athlete who played great and ended up going in the third round to the NFL. Some people question his excessive playing time because he had several blue chips sitting behind him, who might not have his charming personality, or seniority, but were nonetheless blue chips. Indeed, Ridley ran for 105 yards against Texas A&M, which was one of his 4 100+ yard performances. All of these performances were accompanied with an average of 21 rushes as well. The Cotton Bowl he had 105 yards on 24 carries. Say what you want, but Spencer Ware had 102 yards on 10 carries, and he didnt run to the outside or do anything less "tough" than Ridley. Ware pounded it up the middle and then put a move on the quicker defenders and ended up with even more yards. Ridley was a great back, but if anyone was under appreciated last year, it was the other backs that sat behind Ridley.

i really like what you said here and i could not agree more. Ware should have been implemented way earlier then he was. same thing with ford to a lesser extent. It was criminal to keep ware off the field. Just about every coach in the country would have him starting or at the very least spliting carries with the incumbent running back.

Running back is one of the easiest positions to play and adjust too at the college level. I get tired of seeing other teams freshmen running backs run ape shite on sec defenses.

at this point he HAS to play ware and ford, he doesn't have a choice. If ridley would have returned for his senior year we may have only seen ware on occasion which would have pissed me off to no end
