I remember him, he played TE for awhile then went to DE. actually got drafted by the steelers, I was shocked when that happened. I don't remember how long he lasted in the league.

Close, but this guy was a QB.......

On the eve of Super Bowl XLII New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in discussing his choices for the greatest quarterbacks of all time, said that this former QB was the best "pure passer" he ever saw.

In 1990, Jones participated in the first NFL QB challenge. He finished 1st in the retiree category and 3rd in the regular competition. (The regular competition taking the top 3 finishers from the alumni competition and adding them to the regular field of current QBs). Given his strong performance, Bobby Beathard, then the GM of the Chargers, wanted Jones to come out of retirement. Bert was 39 at the time and chose not to try a comeback.

Bert Jones......

And remember Bert was the second player taken in the first round, anyone know the first?

Kenny Davidson was a good player at LSU. Played several positions. Was in the NFL or 7 years.

Unfortunately someone at Wikipedia listed his college as Tennessee.

Norman Jefferson, from Marrero.

It was Bo Jackson, who is arguably the best athlete to ever play in the NFL.
As for DEs running 4.4s, Dwight Freeney ran a 4.38 at 260. It IS possible.

I played with Kenny Davidson (KD). At the 1990 combine he measured 6'5" 270 and ran a 4.65 forty. He never started one game for LSU (played in many though), but was an early 2nd rounder. Quiet fella who was pretty laid back but did take plays off.

Was a physical freak!

BUT, he was in the same class as Clint James and Karl Dunbar, so it was a tough audience.....and Pete Jenkins was not tolerant of the plays of.

no way a guy that big can run a 4.4.........or can he?
SFP can straighten this out, he's the King of 40 times.
