You must have no idea of the talent on our team when Saban took over and how depleted Bama's roster was when he stepped in there.

The cupboard was not bare.

The program simply needed a change at the top.

The difference though was that Bama came off of 2 consecutive bowl appearances. LSU came off of 2 consecutive losing seasons. Saban had work to do in both places, but expectations were somewhat different in both programs at the times he first went to both.
Fair statement but keep in mind that second bowl appearance was a 6 win Independence Bowl. I remember as an LSU fan being dam glad to get to that bowl though.

How many did he run off in the first year he was there?

Shula could recruit, not as well as Saban but he did produce 3 consecutive Top 20 recruiting classes before he was dismissed.

Most of those guys he sent out were not likely to play/start in front of what he kept.

Let me clarify it then, good coachING wins close games, you can book it too, majority of the time. I've seen it too many times.

Conversely speaking, good coaches don't blow 21-0 point leads at half.

One per year? Not too shabby, Miles lost that many close ones (3)last year. I rest my case.

aparently your definition of close games differs greatly from mine. under your definition, saban lost a lot more "close" games than what was listed.

you get what you pay for. refs not calling holding for 8 games or taking away ints and giving it back to bama, a sudden heisman winner.

Can't wait for Bama to start losing some games.......cause...it's gonna happen sooner than later.

any coach in the country could have coached the talent after saban left.

Yep, thats why other schools with equal talent win national championships every year. I'm so tired of hearing this BS.

Without Saban setting the foundation and coaching up players, LM's coaching career would have already gotten him fired.

Actually he lost 11 in combined seasons 3 years running.

Not saying he's a shitty coach, but you people way over-rate Saban, and don't give Miles enough credit.

Yup - still waiting for a reply on this one while I hear a bunch of retarded statements about how Miles loses games but Saban never did.

Can we kill this thread please? I guess not until the Sabanistas kill themselves.
