He’s always had a soft spot for LSU. He loves Louisiana. Loves LSU. It would be a dream come true if he could somehow return in an administration role. Doubtful bama would allow that.

Please provide proof that he asked to come back. I have been hearing this shite for 20 years without any solid evidence.

Dabo wasn’t Dabo until 2016!
Convenient that was the year after spurrier retired and Clemson got back to owning the state of Carolina.

Dean hired/promoted Archer because it was way cheaper.

It brings me peace knowing we’ve reached this chapter of the story.

Skip Bertman has told the story on radio interviews and other places. He admitted he was tired of Saban flirting with the NFL every off-season and was a big part of why he had hired Les Miles. Miles was doing well and was stable. Also there were a lot of stories floating around of Saban being a jerk and hard to work for/with. There was a pretty even split among the fans as well. Most of the people that lived through the rotten years would have rolled out a red carpet to get Saban back, but newer fans seemed to want to roll with Les for the most part.

Easy to say this now.
At that time then, Miles had 2 great seasons at LSU and was poised for another, while Saban was coming off of 2 mediocre seasons in Miami where the stories where about him losing his mind on players during practice.
No AD would've taken that risk. It sucks how it played out, but I don't think LSU could've done anything different.
agree 100%. it's easy to have revisionist hstory
listening to Saban's recent interviews, i think he WOULD have come back to LSU in 2007, if given the chance
it almost would have been better for LSU long term for Miles's first 2 years to be bad/mediocre, so we could have justified bringing Saban back
No doubt in my mind he would have run off 5-7 more natty's here too just like he did at Bama

LSU did just as much for him as he did for us. It was a good relationship.

Didn’t we just kick his a$$ in the Indy bowl?
