This time the Tide (9-1) beat No. 8 LSU on a last-minute touchdown then followed it up by digging an early 20-point hole and losing to No. 9 Texas A&M.
Digging a hole my butt. The Aggies piled a 20 point high pile of manure on their defenseless asses in just one quarter. Gumps never give credit to the other team.

Wait, didn't Saban say how that was the most proud of a team he has ever been last week? Make up your mind Nicky. Typical looking for somebody else to blame from Saban.

Can somebody, anybody explain to me how Hawthorne called Jack Hunt on that play?? Different position, different ethnicity, different everything! After all these years I'm still trying to figure that one out.

If Bama had to play another competent team this week they would probably lose again.

They (players & fans alike) simply deny the scheduling factor, i.e., having to play against good teams on consecutive weeks isn't easy. Their rematch was one of the most fortuitous gifts in CFB history. They live in the world of "we were so much better than LSU and we proved it on 1/9" and ignore the emotional element on the other side. The very time they're required to deal with scheduling rigors they fold like an accordion.

When any Bama team in history can match our body of work in last year's regular season talk to me. Until then, I'll enjoy always being a Tiger!

"I've never been prouder of a bunch of guys" Nick Saban (source: LSU-Bama postgame quotes)

“We don’t want that type of game to happen again where we pretty much beat ourselves,” he (Nico Johnson) said. “We want to come out and prove to everybody that we’re just as good as any other week. Just because we didn’t have a good week doesn’t mean we fell off.

“We just want to go out and dominate our opponent -- Texas A&M.” ( Bama Proves Itself Again!)

You tell'em Nico.

8 looks like 9 when you're seeing something surprising as frick??

Wow. So, he is still blaming the players for the 31-0 Alabama beatdown. He always blames the players.

well no one around here treats saban like he's the kind of coach who could lose a game 31-0. so it must have been the players.

too many other instances of stubbornness....clock mgmt, sticking with crappy qb, sticking with crappy def. coordinators, etc.

Huh? Clock management problems were addressed and fixed; crappy QBs could not be fixed because all we had was crappy QBs and Mett who, as evidenced by the first half of this year, wasn't ready; def. coordinators were replaced with alacrity; and etc.? I can't speak to etc.

We have a great coach. He has some weaknesses as all people do, but his results are incredible. And don't give me this shite about, with this talent we should be blah, blah...the coach is responsible for everything. He got the talent here.

People thought it was real, b/c of how authentic it sounded. Then it was outed as just a made up story near the tail end of the week leading up to the Bama game. The stupid gumps were blasting Saban for the speech even after it was revealed it was fake.

Jim Hawthorne was on Finebaum's show that week and said that the speech hadn't happened. Finebaum kept up the meme by saying (after Hawthorne was off the line) that he wouldn't believe it until he heard Saban deny it. So, Saban had to call Finebaum and deny it himself, taking away from practice time. A lot of Bama fans still didn't believe him, until of course, they hired him.

quote:

Anyways, after the beatdown Bama gave us, Coach Franchione and Saban met at midfield. Someone forgot to give the memo to Franchione letting him know the speech was fake. He sticks his finger in Saban's chest a few times giving him a few choice words.

I still think this was a play to the aTm power brokers, who hate LSU (more then than now, but you never know). Franchione standing up to LSU was just the type of thing they wanted to see a coach do to Texas. After Fran left, a lot of Gumps agreed with this interpretation.
