He’d require a buyout and lots of money.
little Landry made it clear, those days are over

Why do you guys have to ruin the fun? Yes I know he is probably not going to coach at lsu. But coaching searches are amazing times full of wild conjecture and here-say , as well as unsubstantiated rumors. Is it so bad that in my boring fricking life I choose, momentarily, to believe that something amazing will happen? We get it, hes probably done coaching. Just shut up and let us have some fun.
This is the saddest thing I have read in a long time. And not just on here, anywhere.

He was never going to come here while he was at Bama. Is that hard to figure out?

If I observed anything over the years about Nick Saban, it’s that he’s a slave to “the process”, and his process isn’t something he does much consulting on or takes many orders from others on formulating.
Too many cooks in this kitchen for him to be able to control this process to his liking. Collaborating with others on making the perfect gumbo just isn’t his thing (and he frankly doesn’t need it at this point in his life).
ALSO: from the employer standpoint, I personally am not generally interested in candidates who don’t really need the job. Too many possible friction points with those.

Make no mistake about it, if Nick Saban comes, every single person will let him control whatever he wants. He knows that. This is not a factor.

These coaches are worth close to the 9 figures. None of them need this job or any job ever again. Lane Kiffin could retire tomorrow and so could his kids if he wanted.
When you’re talking about bringing big name coaches to LSU, you have to realize NO ONE actually “needs the job”
Saban sure as hell didn’t need that contract extension they signed him to, so much so that he walked away from it.

Y'all poors don't understand that when you have all the money you need, the principle and the reason matter more.
Mrs. Terry didn't go on Gameday asking the question of "Where's that offer, Penn State?" because they want more money.
You think the Sabans feel like they've hit the pinnacle being around the Disney/ESPN production crowd?
These are the Disney adults of the TV world, they're just as insufferable.
I think Nick is bored and would rather go back to his roots and do something different. Anyone who doesn't see that doesn't understand his perspective.

In this context, why would anyone leave their current gig?
They’d be coming here because they need the job for non pecuniary goals. Maybe Lane needs it because he thinks that’s what he needs to cement his legacy. It’s what seduced BK, who certainly didn’t need the money. He needed more than money and thought he needed LSU to get that. Certainly some of the other mid-tier named up and comer names could view the LSU job as a “need”.
But Saban? He needs nothing from LSU. It’s almost a mercy or an apology tour.
All it would take is Landry or some other moron to push him to the “I don’t need this sh!t” point and we’d be back at square one.

It’s hilarious how dumb 90% of this board is. The downvotes you are getting for saying something that anybody with a functioning brain would know is wild. But keep in mind, when Kelly was hired and I said he was a mediocre coach all these same people swore he was going to build a dynasty here.

he was never coming back to LSU and anyone who thought that is delusional

I don’t necessarily, maybe it wasn’t clear in my response. I didn’t say Saban or Kiffin are coming. I think both would be idiots to do so. There’s no upside.
My point was that the reasons you cited aren’t actual reasons for coaches to not come. None of them need the money. When you hire big names you’re basically banking on their ego and how much they care about winning and their legacy.
Someone like Saban is a guy who will walk away from money if he doesn’t think he can win. I do think Kiffin is in that category, but I also thought BK was too. I just don’t think the reasons you stated have anything to do with it.

Nobody said he is coming here, they said he was being contacted.Nobody knows who the coach or AD will be right now.Next week we will know who the President will be and then the AD probably a couple weeks later. Its only NOV.1st there’s at least a month before anything happens as far as the coaching hire would happen. People need to chill out.

I think you are most likely correct, and that is why LSU needs to identify the NEXT Saban. That is what we want, right? We want someone skilled on one side of the ball like Saban. We want someone to add toughness that BK wrenched out of LSU football. We want someone with vision and an eye for real talent, not only as players but as coaches to develop talent. We want someone that will build rapport with the fans and get the fans involved again, and excited to support the team in the stadium and with $ support. LSU needs someone with vision and a plan to get there... all of these things that BK failed at miserably and why the fan base is so discouraged presently. BK almost sucked all the life out of our football program, and LSU administrators did not vent him enough to know that that possibility was inevitable.
I continue to say that Alex Golesh is the next Saban from an experience and mindset, and he would get my full support to take over this program and grow LSU back into an elite program. There may be others that can do this, but Golesh is the right age, the right temperment, the right skill set and has a desire to be great. I hope LSU gives him that opportunity, before some other program realizes the same and hires him and we are forced to watch yet another team, not LSU, become elite.
