Not to say he would ever be as special as Justin Jefferson. But their athletic traits are similar (size, run, jumping, explosion)
Why wouldn’t he have been as special when they have similar physical traits and let’s assume they get the same coaching? Is it instinct? We know Shep has insane work ethic and is very smart. Why wouldn’t he be that special?

Mainly experience, but many number of other factors come Into to play. Coaching, system, intangibles such as dedication & work ethic. Other things hard to measure such as route running & flexibility, ball tracking etc. which are best developed thru experience. It’s hard to develop into an nfl WR when you are already 23 and into your athletic prime, like Shepard was when he entered the nfl.

I guess I throw this in with athleticism. Which is incorrect I guess.

But, I think these things are what held him back. He was not elite in these areas. But he definitely had opportunity to be. He had a lot of time busting his arse in the nfl and it never came. Sometimes guys just don’t have these things on an elite level.

I definitely think he could have been better with better coaching. But he is not elite.
