I know everyone wants to compare Shep to Percy but, he reminds me more of a McCluster type of player; extremely dangerous out of the backfield, and fairly decent spread out as a receiver. I've been saying this. Tolliver is the one who can be deadly out of the slot for us. Hopefully he can recover fairly quickly.
While not a traditional RB Shep -- like McCluster -- can be utilized on counter and jet sweep type of running plays.
Remember last season when Ole Miss started giving McCluster more touches and plays out of the backfield and fewer routes as a WR? I believe that's what Shep can offer.

He could be a good receiver if we had an accurate QB that didn't lead him into traffic or throw behind him. We don't have the QB, and we have receivers that could take his place as 3rd receiver so there is no excuse for him not playing running back.

Neither was Josh Reed
Reed and Shep are very different. Shep needs the ball in his hands early so he can make plays with his feet. Reed was able to be extremely physical to get open, plus he had Rohan throwing to him.
At the time of Reed/Rohan, we were an outstanding passing team and Reed was best utilized as a receiver. Right now we are a running/defensive team and we need Shep to run the ball - A LOT.

RS is 6'1" 185 pounds. He can't take 20 handoffs a game out of the backfield and make it a whole season. Keep him at WR....keep handing the ball off to Ridley.

I never said hand him the ball 20 times?
All I'm saying he is deadlier out of the backfield. whether it is rushing attempts or traditional RB routes like a horn; a linebacker could never be able to cover him.
And FWIW, the McClusters, Raineys, etc. seem to hold up to their workload's.

Half of Sheps carries are going to be going outside in space where he will be eventually tackled by linebackers, corners, or safeties just as he will as a receiver.
Are you saying that he can't take running the ball up the middle 10 times a game? That's crazy talk.
Do you have a problem with Shep getting the ball 20 or more times in a game?
Also, as a receiver, he will be more vunerable to taking big hits as he catches the ball, especially when poor throws are made (which is common right now).
I don't think your argument stands up to logic.

To all saying that Shep isn't a WR bc he's not getting receptions..
how many receptions does RR have?
TT?

I have a want to see him in the backfield more, splitting carries with Ridley
No problem with this but like I said earlier they'd have to have a nickname. Nobody has come up with a good one yet. Maybe - Mohawk and Mercury.

Shep has 12 carries and 4 receptions. His 4 receptions have gone for less yards than Mitch Joseph's receptions.
dont even compare shep to mitch
RS is nowhere near the level of athlete that Mitch is so we cant hold him up to that type of standard.

How many carries do RR and TT have?
Obviously those guys are solidified as wide receivers and it's not even worth debating if they aren't.

There's a reason Shep requested to be put at WR and not RB.

I believe more than Shep does right now...
But you're right we should look into lining TT and RR up in the backfield as well.
It never was about number of catches or targets. It's just that it seems RS is more comfortable and suited to being in the backfield.

I mean, of course I want Ridley to be the main workhorse... who doesn't? But that doesn't mean that Shep can't line up in the backfield for many of his plays. That's all I'm saying. He just looks more comfortable back there.

I do too, most of the time. However, if during the course of a game, the opponents defense is filling the gaps in the line well and Ridley is not being effective, we have to give Shep more carries than Ridley in that particular game. Also, if Ridley gets injured I want Shep to get the most carries on the team.
