Why is this not being discussed more? At no point did he ever touch or attempt to touch home. I get all the other arguments about interference and the balk argument that is irrelevant. Show me in the rules where a run can be counted when the runner does not touch home.

Head of officials indicated that because he was called out and subsequently awarded home, that is a specific instance where he does not need to touch home.

Lame explanation, but that's what he said.

This is one of the few parts of the whole screwed up situation I actually don’t really question. They said because he was ruled out initially there was no reason he had to touch home.

I’d say then that if you hit a home run you shouldn’t need to touch home either. I of course understand WANTING to. But the ump watching and making sure you do is stupid.

Agree on this point. But that brings up another issue.

If he was ruled out initially (which he was) how was the call changed? The play isn't reviewable. He should have made the interference call instead of the out call. Otherwise the play was "reviewed" in some manner and the call changed.

Unless he was overruled by one other base umpires which I can't imagine considering the location of the play.

Yeah the whole rest of the decision tree was egregious and I can’t even begin to rationalize it. I’ve been around a lot of baseball and I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

One announcer put it as it's like the goal tending rule in basketball. The ball never went in but you are awarded the points because it was illegally blocked.

So... there's that..

100% agree

A home run is taken away by missing any base.
Once a runner goes into the dugout, he is out no matter what.
At no time did he touch home plate, yet a run is awarded.
