I'm starting to see alot of comments and stories that include Rueben Randle "needing to be more consistent." or "needs to live up to expectations."

Am I the only one that doesn't agree with this?

With the QB situation, I don't think these types of comments are fair considering how the passing game fell out last year. Randle hasn't gotten a chance to "live up to expectations" because of depth and the lack of a passing game. How can he help what's under center?

quote:

WR Rueben Randle: He arrived on campus in 2009 as the No. 2 recruit nationally, but he hasn't lived up to the hype -- at least not yet. He has 44 catches, with five TDs, in his two seasons. He caught 33 passes as a sophomore (16.5 yards per catch) last season and will have to make the adjustment to being the go-to receiver this season. Can he handle it? He needs to prove he can this spring.

This isn't the first excerpt that I've seen saying something like this.

+1. Very much agreed I've been wondering why he's been getting criticized.

No, I think it's you.

Anyone that's ever played at LSU has played up to their expectations in your eyes.

It's hard to have a breakout season when your starting QB can't even hit double digit TD passes. I think he will shine this year.

Maybe I haven't been reading as much as y'all have, but this is the first I'm hearing of that kind of criticism. I'm more accustomed to hearing about Toliver "not living up to the hype," etc.

But yeah, if people are criticizing him like that, I think it is unwarranted.

I'm still trying to figure out why Russell Shepard gets so much flack.

Yea good point, the media is constantly sucking off Arkansas and there "elite" receivers. I guess sumone has to be the off season scape goat. But he had 5 td's in 2 years? Isn't that about 80% of our passing td's? Lol Give the kid a break.

Yep, just like at Auburn...if he were taller he would have caught that horrible pass by JJ instead of it being a pic! He is the reason JJ sucks!

See, i wasn't going to add that to the original post, but I think the criticism should fall on Shepard. Not Randle.

I understand he switched positions, but it's been 2 and half years now. Time to show some progress and stop lining up wrong and running the wrong routes.

True, but my point was that while I'd heard a good bit of it re: Toliver, I had not heard it much about Randle.

With our QB situation in the past few years, nobody, as a WR, can live up to any expectations. Rueben has done a nice job, not great but nice. That is all any of us could expect so far.

Hopefully, our "forward" passing game improves dramatically, which would help Rueben be able to showcase talent.

Randle had alot of clutch plays the past year, thats with poor qb play...Break out year this year and will be the top 3 WR's in the sec

In situations where the whole team looks out of sync with each other, I'm not sure if it's safe to blame any player, but usually, it is safe to blame the coach.

Considering how awful the route-running was in 2009, I have my doubts as to whether or not Shepard is really messing up like people say he is. It's hard to tell who's at fault on any given play.

And, of course, I think Shepard was being grossly misused by the coaches. The kid's attitude and demeanor have "winner" written all over them.

I tend to disagree a little on this. I think the same thoughts apply. While I'm sure he has lined up wrong and run routes that were not the best, JJ focuses on one receiver only. You can't blam RS for that!
