Robert Mann criticizes Les Miles for his silence on budget cuts

TL;DR version: LSU Manship professor and Jindal lover Bob Mann criticizes Les Miles' silence on budget cuts. Pumps the LSU shutdown angle.
Guy can never resist a Jindal jab.

quote:
Surely, LSU head football coach Les Miles is worried that if his school does not survive the current legislative session, his football team goes down with it. If Miles does know this and is alarmed, you’d never know it. Reportedly close to Gov. Bobby Jindal, the coach has not yet spoken publicly about the danger the proposed budget cuts pose to LSU, in general, and his fall football program, in particular.
Guy can never resist a Jindal jab.
quote:
Perhaps Jindal has advised Miles to stay home or has assured him there’s nothing to worry about. Whatever the case — misplaced loyalty to Jindal or complacency– that apathy has not affected LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva.
quote:
Clearly, Alleva is concerned enough about LSU’s budget to speak out. Les Miles is not.
quote:FEAR FEAR FEAR!
If LSU declares financial exigency and cannot open for classes in the fall, the NCAA and the SEC may not permit the school to field its football team. After all, despite the views of many fans, LSU is a school with a football team, not the other way around.
quote:
Isn’t it time we finally heard from Miles? We all know he’s not much on offense

I knew there was a reason why I switched majors.
For all of the accolades and praise that college has received, the Manship School of Mass Communication is no different from any other agenda-driven, hysteria-brewing media affiliate.

Les Miles has lost control of the state budget.
In all honesty though, does this peckerwood really think anyone gives a damp about what Miles says on this issue or that it will change anything.
"Due to financial constraints, the state budget will cut [insert money amount] from higher.......wait.......what's that.......is he sure.....Ladies and gentlemen the budget cuts have been stopped due to compelling arguments from Mr Les Miles."

I think Les Miles speaking up could have a bigger effect than hearing more of the same from Alexander. I still think Mann is an idiot but Les Miles speaking out about it, even if just a little quip in a press conference or a tweeted statement, could have a positive effect for the university.

let's attack the man whose team pretty much single handedly keeps the school open as is

Couldn't agree more.

It is the AD's job to speak up, not a coach, any coach.

Yes, let's blame this on Les Miles. Just like we blame everything else on him.
And when LSU doesn't close down, let's not credit Les Miles. Just like we never credit him for anything.

alleva is in administration, so of course he's going to speak on the issue.
No one wants or needs to hear a football coach's opinion on political matters. The author is a fricking clown shoe.

I disagree with him, but this is his personal blog. It's not the same posturing as the official announcement about the financial exigency plan.

What's your issue with his comments? Just like Drew Brees, Miles is a huge supporter and donor for Jindal to a degree for both it's pathetic. He has been quiet on it, and I am sorry that some LSU fans give more of a crap about football than they do about the academic institution that happens to be linked to their favorite team.
I think they are going to an extreme with the fear push, but Jindal is a POS and Miles loves the dude for whatever damn reason.

Yeah, not like LSU has anything to do with Miles success and if Les weren't here I am sure LSU sports would go bankrupt.

Miles' football program gives back millions every year to the school. its not his job to interfere with the schools budget issues

You switched your major because you weren't smart enough to compete.

That guy can go play in traffic. Les Miles is the football coach and, in my humble opinion, should not have his hands in the school's budget. There is a clear separation between the two parties.
How does this guy become a professor?

Bob Mann needs to go jump in a lake. This is hackery of the first order.

Buddy, I graduated with honors and I was one of the top students in my class during my tenure as a broadcast journalism major.
Maybe you shouldn't generalize someone if you don't know them very well.
I wanted to retain a soul and not have to adhere to some corporate-mandated political agenda whenever it came to my work.

Tenured professors who teach two classes, pull six figure salaries, and do not bring in research dollars are more damaging to LSU's budget situation than a head coach's silence. Particularly when that head coach's team is responsible for the vast majority of the $7 million that is contributed to LSU's academic side.
Many of his collegues wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for Les Miles and his "not much on offense" program.
