Hunter Gomez was my boy.

When I was playing 12 year old baseball back in 2000 I would try to use the same hopping pitch delivery he used. I sucked.

I noticed that he had a "hitch" in his delivery, but it did not remind me of Gomez'. Remember how opposing coaches would complain that Gomez' delivery was illegal?

Yeah, they claimed his foot left the rubber before delivery or something of that sort. They wanted balks called on every pitch.

I don't know about the Gomez similiarity, but his delivery is certainly funky. There appears to be a "hitch". He's definitely consistent with it.

from that game's write up:

quote:

Hunter Gomez pitched five innings in relief of starter Brian Tallet, who struggled with control and walked seven batters.

you know why tallet sucked? Because he was drunk singing on the bar at The 4th Quarter the night before...

Gomez was one of those pitchers that seemed to have a rubber arm. He could pitch several times in a week with seemingly no ill effects. Skip loved using pitchers like that.

Join the crowd! The real world is OK though.

then smoke came in and tried to do the same thing with dirks and had him throw like 14,000 innings one year and his arm turned to poo.
