I thought I read an article a week ago where Bo Pelini was quoted as saying in a roundabout way that Ricky Jean was the best defensive player on the team last year. If true that is scarey because he will only get better.

Wha is the hype based on? I am not saying he is not worthy of it. But I do not know much about him, other than hearing he played great in the two games he played in last season. I am just asking from those who have followed closely.

IMO the guy is an animal and I am excited to watch him play this year.

This time, Auburn can't get away with chop-blocking in front of our seeing-eye-dog SEC refs; the whole country will be watching this year!

RJF is highly revered around this parts because he's flat out produced whenever he's been on the field.

IMO, what makes him so good is his track and field background. He was a very good shot put and discus thrower in high school, and he's had decent success in college, too. A good thrower has to be very explosive and have good feet -- both qualities that are beneficial for a lineman.
He's also a good guy and a well spoken young man. Not a "savage" and a "gorilla" as some has mispoken in this thread to describe him. He's a very smart football player and good young man (yes, I know he made a mistake last year and got suspended, but we've all made mistakes as young men). SEC teams will fear and Respect him this year.

That sounds weird. I thought I read that he was the #1 DL in FL coming out of HS.

nobody thought he would qualify. Everyone knew who he was. Daunte Culpepper wasn't offered by any of them either for the same reason.

Guess that would offer some explanation of the alleged cheating in school. Bad move on the Florida schools by not offering.

After serving a full season suspension I think we've moved past the "alleged" part.

his parents also accused LSU of "brainwashing" him during the recruiting period since they wanted him to go to USF. He didn't sign until like a month after signing day because his parents refused.

Chuck Norris played arse kickers in movies and TV shows before challenging RJF. Now he's only capable of making bad infomercials.
