What's the problem with that block? You can go low on a guy if he is not otherwise engaged. Did they change the rule again?

At first glance it looks bad. Rewatching, the defender did everything he could to put himself in the worst possible position.

100% legal and clean block

Anyone who disagrees is ignorant, and probably a pussy, like Rich Eisen

Guy saw him. Guy ducked his upper body down, but didn't actually go low. Moss didn't appear to target the knee, just anticipated him going low with the upper body movement.

I know the end looks bad, but it does not appear, on the face of it, to be a dirty or even illegal play.

Was he flagged?

I can see it being at the knees and a penalty, but this happened with someone against Florida in '19 that negated an interception at the end. Can't recall who made the hit on Trask but they got his hip and sort of slid down to the knee and he get flagged.

That's different. You can't go low on a QB in the pocket. That's a rule. (Even though I agree the call against Florida was very tick tacky) There is no rule against blocking a defensive lineman low, if he's not already engaged.

Moss seemed committed to go low, but as he was going down, the DB turned sideways. No time for Moss to adjust.

No one bitches if he blocks him high. It's not a tackle. That's definitely a bad block.

Not familiar with the technical nuances of blocking issues but it appears to me first contact is at the thigh level and then he slides down..

I'm sorry guys but #5 did that to himself. Moss was coming in for a higher block and the dude turned sideways on him to avoid contact and ducked. These big guys are not agile ninja's who can change direction on a dime.

Agreed. It’s not like he aimed for the knees.
First contact was at the hip. Unfortunately, Thibodaux’s spikes stuck in the ground and Moss slid down his leg.

It was legal, and it worked. End of story.

That’s a legal block in the backfield or at the line of scrimmage. Triple option teams like Army and Navy block that way every play.

Let me guess - Eisen is a Giants fan. You hate to see guys get hurt but Moss is the smaller player and needs to go low to effectively block a DLman on that play. Thibodeaux had a weird reaction where he turned his leg side ways and planted it right when Moss was engaging the block. It's clear Moss wasn't trying to injure him.

Defender starts to dip which made Moss dip lower. Then the defender inexplicably stands up straight.

Moss was caught in between with no intent.

Funny how this is the only place I’ve seen on the internet with people saying it was a good block
