Rice has football?
Most years no.
But this year, Rice would have given LSU fits at the end of the season. I probably would have picked them to win honestly (and I follow LSU football very closely).

So basically, whoever gets to the bullpen first will win

LSU has a huge edge once the bullpens are in play.

Agreed. Especially with the emergence of Nolan Cain and Bradshaw as quality arms.

Rathjen DHs against lefties. Ryan Lewis (from BR) DHs against righties.
And Rathjen's dad played football for LSU.

Jeremy Rathjen
Father (Craig) played football at LSU from 1983 - 1987.
The kid is still Tiger bait

Against top 50 RPI:
Rice 15-6
LSU 24-8

Their DH, Jeremy Rathjen, is the son of former LSU fullback Craig Rathjen.

Picked them to win? Let's not get carried away. Rice had a good season by their standards but have you seen CUSA's performance in bowl games over the last few years? I believe the conference champ lost to Kentucky this past bowl season. A CUSA team may be able to beat a SEC team in baseball. But football is a MUCH different story. Too much of a talent gap between the 2.

What is your deal with conferences? Conferences don't play each other... teams do. Take a look at Rice's offensive stats. Two of the top receivers (Top 5 if I remember correctly) in the country. Statistically one of the best offenses. Basically a similar scheme to Troy (yes, that Troy team) but with much better personnel. And they were hitting their stride at the end of the year.

Stagg shut up. No way Rice would've beat LSU in football.

ryan lewis is from catholic high, and was teammates with austin nola there and they are very good friends...also lewis will prolly start at DH because all are starters are right handed.

After going back and looking at their box scores against RHP I decided to put Lewis in the projected starting lineup.

Yeah, that stalwart LSU pass defense would have worked wonders against one of the most prolific pass offenses in NCAA history.

Do rice career football record count as actual records?

The odds of LSU's defense stopping Rice are much greater than the odds of Rice's defense stopping LSU.
But I can understand why victories over USM, Tulane, UTEP, Army, Marshall, Houston, Western Michigan, North Texas, Southern Methodist, and Memphis would have you feeling a little cocky.
Those teams did go a combined 46-78.
The point about the conference comparison is that the bulk of Rice's prolific passing stats were accumulated in an inferior conference. While Rice had a solid year by their standards that success likely wouldn't have translated into a matchup with LSU. The talent gap between CUSA and the SEC is HUGE in football and the talent gap between LSU and Rice is equally huge. It's hard to imagine Rice enjoying that kind of success against a team with as many athletes as LSU. I'm not saying that Rice wouldn't have scored some points but there is no way they would have won the game.
Rice put up 21 pts in its one matchup with a SEC team last season (lost to Vanderbilt 38-21). I can see a similar offensive performance against LSU. But Charles Scott, Jordan Jefferson, and the LSU offense would have had a field day with Rice.
