this far (42 games) into a college baseball season? Anyone know?
He is having a simply incredible year at the plate.

Do you know who specifically and what their BA was at a comparable point?

I know Russ Johnson holds the LSU single season record for batting average at .410 back in 1994.
Sorry that doesn't answer your question.

at LSU? no one. the SEC record is Dave Magadan at .525 for the season in 1983. Russ Johnson batted .410 in 1994. That's the LSU record, and Raph will shatter that. He's on pace for 194 at bats in the regular season. To break the record, he would need 80 hits on the season. He has 80 already. So, in theory, he could finish the regular season with > .410 BA without getting another hit. With that in mind, and discarding the postseason, it is highly improbable anyone in LSU history has been hitting .503 through 42 games. I'll go out on a limb and say no one has ever been close at this point.

I thought maggaden was at .460. Don't think anyone in SEC play has ever hit .500

And he's doing it with these new bats.

where do you think he would be at with the bats of the guerilla ball days

I honestly think he would be hitting worse with the old bats. Those bloopers we've become so accustomed to would be routine fly balls with the old bats. Just my thoughts

Maybe. But some of the fly balls would've been out of the park or over the OF heads or in the gap when they're now able to be cut off.. Also, every ball hit on the ground in the IF would've been much hotter to handle.
A guy who puts the bat on the ball almost every time could not have helped but to benefit from the old trampoline bats.

lets not forget that he missed a handful of games due to injury...imagine what it would be if he had played every game like he has been...
Posted on 5/2/12 at 8:30 am to Pepperidge
he was 0 for 9 when playing with a concussion.
Posted on 5/2/12 at 8:34 am to bbap
understood...but had he not been injured/missed any games is the point I was trying to make...
Posted on 5/2/12 at 8:35 am to Pepperidge
that's not nearly the detriment of going 0 for 9 when he shouldnt have been out there.
