Rewatch the game........

No one should be allowed to post anything, positive or negative, without rewatching the game.
If you think you have an actual idea of how ANY game goes down based on your initial viewing, then you are either a complete idiot, or Good Will Hunting.
There is a reason coaches and players watch a ton of film.
I wanted to break my TV and never watch another LSU game after the emotion of that game. But after rewatching the game, I feel as good about this team as I have since 2007.
DL was absolutely sick. Nevis, Pep, Montgomery, and Brockers are monsters.
Kelvin is amazing. Francois was solid but wasn't around the ball as much as you'd like. Minter and Barrow have work to do but are talented.
PP is greatness. Jai was solid. Taylor is out of position too much. Claiborne was not as bad on second viewing but got torched on a double move on the 97 yarder, which was completely scripted by UNC. Great play call with their backs to the wall.
OL was VERY solid. And no, those were not scrubs they were playing against. They aren't scrubs anymore than Brockers or Downs, our 2nd string DTs are, and they got pushed off the ball all night in the run game, and didn't get a sack. And T-Bob, who I wanted cut after watching the game, played really well and DID NOT hold on that TD. He absolutely pancaked his man. HORRIBLE CALL. Improvement here was VERY obvious.
Anyone who says JJ hasn't improved isn't worth talking to. They have their minds made up. He played well. Does still hold the ball in certain situations though. But overall, got the ball out MUCH quicker than last year. Also, he is keeping the ball on options this year, whereas he ALWAYS pitched it last year and didn't even really try to fool anyone into thinking he'd run. They obviously drilled keeping the ball into his head this summer, so he has to learn to balance the pitch vs. the keep. The only REALLY two bad plays were the pick at the end of the half, and the intentional grounding. He held it too long on both of those and panicked. Other than that though, he was much more decisive and got the ball out. Still locks on to receivers though too a good part of the time. Needs work there, but honestly, the first read was usually open, shown by his great comp. %. So, it's tough to knock that too much.
Gameplan was very good by Crowton, or Gonzales, or whoever, and I was one of the first Crowton haters on this board. Came out attacking in the 2nd half again, but Ridley's fumble killed a scoring drive. No "meerkat" O, VERY FEW presnap penalties, no trouble getting the play calls in, no option to the short side, and not nearly as much option at all. Took shots downfield. Tight ends were involved in the passing game unlike last year, probably due to our OL finally playing better so we didn't need to keep them in to block as much. Shep got several touches, and Murphy, thank god, got very few opportunities. The offensive staff has clearly made improvements in everything from gameplan, to personnel use, to relaying calls from the sideline, to actual play calls.
Ridley ran VERY well, and if he can stop fumbling, he will be a great SEC back. That said, he almost cost us the game. The fumble on the first drive of the second half killed our momentum, and of course the last one was just inexcusable. His TD that was called back for a bogus call was a great great run.
We do still have a bad tendency to run routes short of the 1st down markers on 3rd down. That was the only glaring problem I saw with the gameplan. Randle should NEVER be running short of the sticks on 3rd down and he did it at least twice.
I did wish Randle was more of a focus in the O. That guy is as good as they come. Ford not getting carries is terrible. I don't care how little of the playbook he knows, put him for the 2 or 3 plays he does know. And he CANNOT be any worse on blitz pickup than Murphy. FACT.
Stampley is simply not an SEC FB IMO.
Can't wait till next week. If the players and coaches can avoid the clowns on this board, and keep doing what they're doing, we are going to be just fine.

I drink way too much during to objectively evaluate the game.

I thought so too. We were able to run the ball and the pocket held most of the night giving JJ time to do something, of course his decision making was not always the best.

They also give their opinion in post game pressers having not watched a film
But I did rewatch it, and how anyone could feel good about what happened is amazing to me

I think that is the norm. That's why it's hilarious when these clowns are on here posting the second the game ends talking about Fire Miles and nothing has changed from last year. Ridiculous.

What specifically "happened" to make you feel it's impossible for anyone to feel good about the game?

I feel better after re-watching as well. However, I wouldn't watch past the T-Bob holding call if you don't want to get pissed again.
As a whole, this team has a lot to build on following that game. Unfortunately, after the T-Bob hold, the wheels fell off. Before that, there were signs of dominance on both sides of the ball every once in a while. I would feel much better about our offense if we weren't playing their 2nd string.

Nice post. I agree the Oline did not give up a sack. The lone sack(the grounding play) was all on JJ. No hold on TBob. That reminded me of the holding call on Herman when Davis scored at UF in '06. Stampley just doesn't get in good position. I'd like to see Edwards get a shot there. Ford and Ware should get a shot. Felt sorry for Murphy 'cause that was not a fumble. Also a horrible no-call on the onside kick. Ridley should not start next week. JL should see a few snaps IMO.

Voodoo,
Where can I rewatch the game online. SEConCBS no longer seems to carry them (ABC contract, I guess?)

Not sure. I DVR'd it and rewatched it at home. I also saw ESPNU replayed it last night, so you might want to check their listings to see if they'll replay it again. They usually do.
ETA: Also, I'm not in BR anymore, but they used to replay the games on Cox Sports during the week. Check your listings there too.

I agree with the assessment, over all, as well. Watching live just doesn't allow me to see what is going on with the line. That's what I like to watch on the re-plays.
One thing that shows up live that doesn't show up on TV is, like last year, our safety many times lines up 25 yards off of the LOS. I think that is why the TE routes over the middle went for yards. When we get our back against the goal line and we crowd in more, we play better.

That's a really good point, and by far the biggest thing we need to work on. We have to move our players around to take away the short slants. I'd much rather force them to beat us deep with our corners and the pressure we'll put on the QB than let them nickel and dime us to death.
And just to be fair, let me add, just like the 2nd half wasn't nearly as bad on first viewing, the 1st half wasn't as impressive.
We had big plays, which were great, but because of those plays, we didn't get to see the O sustain drives as much as I'd like. Because we can't always count on those big plays once we get to the SEC schedule.
Still, the signs that things had changed and the problems were addressed this offseason WERE there.
BTW, for all you idiots throwing our yardage total out there to show that our O hasn't improved, YOU CAN'T PUT UP HUGE NUMBERS ON O WHEN YOU HAVE OVER 300 RETURN YARDS YOU F'ING MORONS. Just think about it, maybe you'll understand.

Baker, C Tolliver, D Peterson, Starting FB kicked off the team, Blackwell goes down early. Not a mention by Herbie and Mushmouth in their relentless emphasis of UNC situation.

Thx. I'm visiting family in Atlanta, but going back to Germany in a couple of weeks. I was looking for a good replay site for the rest of the season. I usually don't subscribe to ESPN360 until mid-November or so, but I'll see if they're running a season special.

I didn't say it was impossible for anyone to feel this way.
But what amazes me is how someone could feel good about allowing a depleted team to rack up those kinds of offensive numbers on you, and nearly blow a 20 point 4th quarter lead.
That's what happened. LSU laid down, and a half strength ACC school nearly jumped up and beat them
