I don't recall Hodson ever being named a first team All-American selection . Doesn't mean he wasn't but I don't remember it.

Heisman candidate
Technically everyone is a Heisman candidate. Was there a year he received a significant number of votes?

4 time 1st team SECOND QB
All SEC for four years is a major accomplishment

I don't support retiring Dorsey's number either.

IMO, these are the other names that have a chance to appear on the "ring of honor" (in no particular order):

So many great LSU players.... but if this is about great players who graduated from LSU and had successful pro careers my vote would go to DALTON HILLIARD.

just a thought.
No.
The next number to be retired is #3 "Quick Six". From where I sit, there is no LSU QB with a "retire-eligible" number. Hodson was 1-2 in Bowl Games and helmed a 4-7 senior campaign, with LSU scoring a mere 39 points total against Florida, Auburn and Bama that year.
What a difference a year makes? - Hodson and I are the same age and attended LSU during the same period. I was at Basic Training for the '88 season (therefore I missed the Earthquake Game), and for ROTC I attended every home game of the '89 season - he looked great against Ohio, Tennessee (All-American quality performance - Archer's defense lost the game) and Mississippi State - he stank it up the rest of the time.
In no measurable, statistical way is he superior to Jamarcus Russell - and nobody is going to retire Russell's jersey number.

Corey Webster had a better career than Hodson and was a better #13. No way in hell is Hodson deserving of that honor and I was a big fan of the guy.

I'd support Hilliard over Hodson but neither over Faulk.

You misspelled Patrick Peterson

I am not aout retiring anyone's number. However, if you consider the period of time in which he played(including the distractions ) i think it would be fair to say that he was one of the coolest, most accurate quarterbacks that I had ever seen. Tommy could throw it in the back window of a 1987 Oldsmobile doing sixty but the most important thing about him was he was a man of character .

Hilliard and Hodson won an SEC Championship...

Same with Dorsey.
Dorsey was good 1 year. that is it.
Hodson was all SEC First Team all four years. NOT 1 LSU Player has done that but him.
Can't argue with that as being overrated.
What amazes me about people like you is that you look at the game today as the same as 1986. The game is much different. he played before bubble screens and all of the Rash (run-pass) type offenses.
LSU ran the ball and passed on third down. he was so consistent. For a career heis passing rating was 137. When you go back and look at all those records, statistics, etc. There isn't a single QB from his era in most of those categories. only him. Most are from the mid to late 90's and 2000 era.
He stands alone.
Say what you want about his time at LSU. I was there for every game and saw nothing more than a winner who could find windows when they were not there. he could make it happen by keeping the play alive.
You put that guy into LSU's offense today and we win at least 2 NCs. He was that good.

You got to be kidding right?
4 time 1st team all sec, AA, 2 sec championships, If you look at Passer rating. He is the only 1 from his era in the top 15. NONE from the 80's most came from the mid to late 90s and 2000s. Dude was an animal.

Don't think dalton graduated. pro careers do not factor into this at all.

Not sure if Kevin or Dalton got their degrees. In fact it seems like I read something recently that Kevin was back at LSU trying to finish up.

No. Loved Hodson, but no.

I loved me some Tommy Hodson as a kid, but I cannot see his number being retired.
I distinctly remember his senior season starting out "Hodson for Heisman" and at a certain point being "Guidry for Hodson."

I think it's all opinion. Pro success should have nothing to do with it. FWIW I would love to see Hodson's jersey retired. He meant so much to LSU football.

One word for Tommy Hodson: Fearless (especially when you look at what we have today).
