They've ruined this tournament with the new format.

For excitement purposes, I think its going to make the tournament boring as hell.
For functionality I actually love it.
The top 4 teams don't really need to prove anything on SEC Tournament weekend. MAYBE number 4 is on the bubble of being top 8 in most years. But by in large their resume's are set.
The next 4 have the potential to get 4 wins which may be the difference in being a top 16 host or not.
The bottom 8 are potentially on the bubble of getting in. By getting a chance to win 5 they can really add to their resume or a sleeper team (like Mizzou this year) can get hot and that means another SEC team in the tournament.

Yeah... no reason for mizzou and company to be there imo.

Yes, every good team will benefit from the rest and not having to play so many games. 12 at most should be allowed to go. It makes for a situation if a bad team gets really lucky at the right time, they could essentially take out a real contender of making the CWS. And very likely that lucky team won't make it far making it more risky for less SEC teams to make the CWS.

YES, and I am so excited to have a great shot (as of now) at making that top 4. Talk about a coach’s dream only having to play the typical 3 games!

If they insist on 16 teams they need to use a “pods to semis” model. That type format is best for attendance and there are ways to ensure no team plays more than 4 games.
So 24 pool play games?
Would need several more stadiums

I think it should go back to 12 teams. There is no reason for all 16 teams to be there.
Indeed there isn't. I miss when it was 8 teams. But 12 should absolutely be the limit.
The strength of the conference might make having more than 8 necessary now (it wasn't necessary when they first expanded it, in my opinion) but 16 is nuts. I'd rather not even have a conference tournament if we're going to cheapen it that much.
