It could be argued you get more mileage out of a tourney championship but I still prefer a regular season title.
that's only for schools in small conferences that generally only get one bid, the automatic. So, yes, in their case I'd absolutely take a conference tournament title because many times it's the only wy to advance. However, in LSU's case in the SEC, a conference regular season title gets you more credence when it comes to seeding.

regular season champs of course. but it seems like a lot of the LSU fanbase doesn't understand the difference between the two.

The only time I would prefer a conference tournament title instead of a regular season title would be if the only way to get into the NCAA tourney was by winning the conference tourney.
Well that's sorta contradictory. If you win the regular season, you wouldn't need to win the tournament to get in. In the SEC anyway.

i was referencing smaller, generally one bid, conferences. i clarified that later in my post when talking about the SEC being the opposite. 2012 is a perfect example. Mississippi State won the tournament. LSU, Florida, and USC received national seeds because they finished 1, 2, and 3 in the SEC respectively.

The opposite of whichever one the coaching staff would rather win

That's kind of my point. I don't place a lot of value on the SECT championship. I mean it's cool that we keep winning them. But ultimately the SEC reg season crown is more meaningful.
One bid leagues, the tourney is more important.

So the answer to the OP is if you're in a major conference, winning the regular season is preferable; minor conference, you better win the conference tournament regardless of regular season. Done...thread over.

Youngstown State with a 6-17 record in the Horizon conference will be playing in the NCAA tourney while Wright State, conference champions with a 25-4 record, is going nowhere.
And this is exactly the problem I have with tournaments. Which one would be a better four seed?

LSU didnt face any weekend starters in the SECT
Whos fault is that? Vandy had Beede sitting in the dugout.
Also, the LSU pitching staff had an ERA of 1.09 in the tournament. Did the other teams take out their good hitters as well? Keep pitching that way and facing weekend starters wont matter much.

I always wondered if you get a ring for winning the sec tourney only? Anybody know?

I think the tourney champ gets more recognition but to me, the overall season champ is much better.

Most answers were as expected.
Regular season title really means more, but its great to see your team getting a tournament win right before National Tournament play begins.

Regular season champs, however; I would not be upset with a strong finish and getting hot right before and after the SEC tourney (see 2014 season).

Winning the regular season title is essentially an automatic top-8 seed. So I'd say that. this however, it is fun as shite and exciting to win the sec tourney. tough one to answer.

Winning the tourney feels a lot more like an actual championship than regular season.
Like you actually play in a championship game, which is pretty cool - Sunday was pretty awesome if you're an LSU fan.

It's also good practice for the tournaments to come: regional, super, CWS.

I'd rather do it exactly the way we did it.
While it's true that a regular season championship pretty well guarantees you a national seed, there will generally be two SEC national seeds. Many times, it's the "hot hand" at the end of the tourny.
Had Ole Miss one it, they'd have likely been seed 8.
I'll take our way any day......play good enough to put yourself into a position to obtain a national seed, go into the tourny hungry, win it, thus leaving it play your best baseball of the year.
It's a streaky game fellas.
