I was there in the arena and everyone around us for both teams was incredibly frustrated about how many whistles there were for what seemed like phantom fouls.

It felt like one of those NFL games with a flag on every play. There was no rhythm to the game and it prevented both teams from playing tough defense.

I think it impacted both squads, so not sure if it changed the eventual outcome in the W/L column, but holy shite it was miserable.

Did it feel like that on the TV broadcast?

Definitely felt like both teams were surprised at some calls. A couple of times when Williams was fouled he look surprised and gave a smile to other players.

FWIW, this is not an excuse for a loss, so if you can't read the OP correctly, let me clarify that.

We looked apathetic and disinterested in being there. It was a terrible motivation job by our coaches.

And Vandy was on absolute fire.

It really was. A college basketball game with no overtime should only take about an hour and 55 minutes.

This game was 2:20.

I saw both coaches smirk at times when calls went their way like they knew they just got a free one.

I was like 10 rows up at midcourt, which in that arena means I was eye level with the players/refs basically. I saw probably 10-15 fouls that were complete bullshite (and evenly distributed for both teams).

The only real uninterrupted time in the game was from about the 15min to 13min mark in the 2nd half and both team went on scoring runs during that time.

I don't play the games. I watch them. The refs made the game miserable to watch. That's what this is about.

the refs were the only reason lsu was in the game. But yes, there was a ton of stopped play

The refs were pretty inconsistent. Sometimes they wouldn’t call shite when dudes got hammered, other times they were calling ticky tack bullshite.

But LSU played uninspired and deserved to lose.

Agreed. Some of the fouls called on Vandy were awful and visa versa.

Yep. When Days got called for that first foul 19 seconds in, I knew what kind of night it was going to be.

College basketball refs need to learn to swallow their whistles. You don’t call a foul every time there is a little bit of contact, basketball is a physical sport.

The refs have made basketball so difficult to watch. I still wonder how a person can stand there with their arms directly over their head, not jump and still get called for a foul when a shooter jumps into them. It’s called 90% of the time yet traveling is called so infrequently and so inconsistently. They just get so excited to blow that whistle for an “and one”.

I think what a lot fans couldn’t see in the arena was most of the fouls underneath was because of contact within the restricted area under the rim.

Agreed, also many times down low if a player is a little bit out of position they just assume he’s going to foul and automatically blow the whistle. The problem is many times there is no actual foul.

Maybe the refs but u got to admit. Lsu players had zero interests in getting rebounds and zero interests in playing defense practically the whole game. The refs were not the main problem, LSU just did not want that game, wanted no part of it.

Yes, they were ridiculous. For both teams. It was hard for players to figure out what they could do and what they couldn't. Horrible.

But they weren't the reason we lost. Vanderbilt looked like Golden State last night. Where did that bust out of?

Refs routinely ruin the final five minutes of college basketball games.

Not especially. Just numb to it. LSU defense was so soft.. it is hard to project winning a game like that. Close outs were bad. We let dribble drives to the basket all game long.

Came back to go ahead by 4. And get beat 19 to 6 down the stretch. (6:26)

Missed key free throws. Missed open looks. The offensive inconsistency down the stretch in close games finally caught up with us again. We saw this against VCU and Utah state and Florida and Arkansas and Miss St. won most of them

If we do not improve the Defense Auburn will light is up.

It is,coaching and effort on defense... but lack of inside depth and lack of a rim protector makes LSUvulnerable to anyone especially on the road. LSU is very small. Very very athletic but small. And we have a short bench
