I was just looking at his previous stop's record and he never had a winning record at Vandy. Why was he given the keys to the LSU program?

Dinardo brought back the magic. had a pretty good run there for a few years. also left the cupboards full for Saban, never understood all the hate for the man

He brought back the tradition of wearing the white jerseys.

My earliest memory as a Tiger fan was watching his first game as LSU HC against Texas A&M. His early years were influential on me, and would help shape my fandom. He also brought in the kid who, in my opinion, changed everything.

As for the hate, I think it has more to do with Tepper than Dinardo himself.

joe dean was tight as hell and didn't want to ante up for a more proven coach... plus there was no TAF yet

What you typed was nothing! It was vague, and in no way contributed to anything!

lou tepper did Dinardo in.
read and react stupid fricking defense that go us killed.

Sad part was we had pretty decent offense and several several good players on defense during that time.

Because the LSU football program was a pile of charred ashes when he was hired. He was one of the few that really wanted to be the HC here. Moreover, going 18-26 (5-6, 5-6, 4-7, 4-7) at Vandy was considered, as it would be today, to be a great accomplishment.

Pat Sullivan of TCU was considered a good coach at the time and was offered the job. He did not want to be responsible for his buyout and opted to stay in Fort Worth.

Because for those of us in school at the time, his last two years were pretty miserable. It's easy to look back after all of the success since then and go easy on him. Emmert and the boys chose the right guy to replace him.

He was pretty good at Vanderbilt.

Also, a great recruiter. Which is why we ended up getting guys like Faulk instead of seeing them flock out of state like Warrick Dunn.

He was, by no means, a great coach. But he wasn't an abortion either.

Because ANYONE, literally ANYONE would have been better than Curley Hallman - you, me, OBUDan, SFP, Rocket, Speedy, Lou Tepper, Larry Coker, ANYONE would have been better than Curley.

If you don't understand, you simply had to be there.

(Full disclosure: I am in the "Dinardo wasn't that bad, but we could and did do better" camp.)

Our offense was okay in '98, but it was absolutely terrible in '99.

We averaged 20 points/game.

That. fricking. sucks.

Had to jump on him quick before someone else hired him after he just lost to Tennessee 65-0 in his last game at Vandy.
