I believe the names of the colors are royal purple and old gold. They actually have numbers associated with the colors for the actual pigments. I know I have either seen it in a media guide or on the lsu.edu website.

I do like our traditional uniform and don't believe we should change it. However, compared to other uniforms with gold in them, LSU's color is more of a yellow. I'm not saying we should go to the gold helmet, but if we do I would rather the pro-combat than a helmet that looked like the saints.
Also, if you took a picture of the LSU uniform without any context of it being an LSU uniform and showed it to 100 people, I'd be willing to bet that at least 90 of them would say it is yellow.

No. The official LSU gold is sunflower gold. You may be thinking of the Nike combat uniforms of 2009 when the helmets were changed to "old gold" just for the Arkansas game. That's the same gold UW uses fwiw.

I would agree, but none of those 90 should ever call themselves LSU fans.
There is a certain percentage of LSU fans that routinely and casually refer to LSU's gold as yellow. Mostly when describing LSU unis or LSU clothing.

I enjoy these helmets from the past so the Combat uniform helmets to me were paying respect to the past.

I was a buyer for LSU merchandise at one time. We had retail sales in excess of $1 million a year.The colors are PMS268 Purple and PMS 123 Gold. In the trade the gold LSU uses is referred to as Athletic Gold. The color the Saints used is called Vegas Gold.
