re: Record for a "Good season"

Considering I'm not delusional like a lot of fans that think 10-2 minimum no matter what, is the only way for a good season, my good season for "THIS YEAR" is 9-3.
He went 9-3 last year vs an extremely awful schedule with an experienced team. That schedule gets completely turned around this year and we are the least experienced we have been in a super long time. The only experienced veteran on the offense is Brumfield (let that sink in), and Giles in a completely different QB friendly offense, and we have zero impact returning at RB. We are running a brand new offense and if we lose Greedy Williams at any point, we are up shite creek at CB.
If we go 9-3 we have likely beaten two or more of Miami, Auburn, Bama, UGA, and Miss St. Every one of those teams are poised to have 10+ wins.
A lot of this will overlap, but whatever. This year we play;
- The two 2018 national championship teams
- The 2017 SEC West, SEC East, and ACC Coastal winners
- Five teams that finished with 9 wins or more, 4 with at least 10
- a Jimbo led TAMU, a Mullen led Florida @ the swamp, @ Auburn week 3, and a loaded and uber experienced Miss St team that beat us by 30 last year.
To reiterate, a good season "THIS YEAR", would be 9-3. Next year I expect 11-1 or better. Miss St loses almost everything. Auburn loses Stidham, that DL, and most of those WRs. We get UF at home, but they will be even more improved. We don't have UGA on the schedule, and Ta'amu and half of those Ole Miss WRs will be gone. If we get South Carolina they will have lost Bentley and Deebo Samuel to the NFL, and none of the other East teams are worth talking about.
In 2019 we'll only have to worry about TAMU and Florida in year two of Jimbo and Mullen (both at home though), a possibly pretty good Texas team, and a super experienced, juggernaut Bama team on the road. Thing is, we'll have the best team we've had since 2011.

Be prepared to be disappointed.... this team will be lucky to go 7-5.
Believe me, I completely agree. The schedule is just too brutal. But that doesn't mean expectations should drop. I personally think that if they 1-2 after Auburn, O should be left in Auburn just like Miles was. If they lose to Miami, there's just no way they go better than 7-5.

a good season,
9-3 when you play in the SEC West has ALWAYS been a good season. Since when has a good season matched our expectations?

10-2 or better.
Every year.
That should be our expectation and that should never change, regardless of who the coach is.
Anything less than averaging that is a failure.
PERIOD.

So Miles was fired for TWO not good seasons out of ELEVEN???
Only ONE in his last seven seasons

Agreed. We are probably going to play 4 top 10 teams.
Go 2-2 and win the rest.
That's 10-2.
You're all a bunch of goal post moving pussies. We need to have firm expectations for this program and when they are not met, we need to move on to a man who can deliver on them.
I don't care who the coach is, just win baby.

So Miles was fired for
The expectations for Les were higher than the expectations are for O. Les was expected to have ten win regular seasons and win the West. O is expected to win 8-9 games and come in second or third in the West..

If you want to find solace in that, knock yourself out. 9 wins is simply 9 wins and hasn’t been acceptable for LSU football since about 2001 no matter the coach. imo
Not entirely. Miles was fired for not winning west and how LSU played. Yes, he won games but it was a train wreck to watch. So as much as Wins are Wins, "how we play" is a factor. If miles would have changed the offense, but had same win/loss record, he would still be the coach. FACT!
I also find it hilarious of the Down votes for people saying 9-3. LOL have any of you actually seen the schedule? 9-3, 10-3 after bowl is a good season. 10-2 would be unbelievable, givin the schedule. I appreciate the DV

What you guys think?
I think we need a new coach so we can expect 10 wins every season not 7. Even with the likes of Anthony Jennings, who couldnt hit a barn door, and Brandon Harris, who was a practice player only, that was the expectation for the previous coach.
Even with the SEC being the strongest conference by a wide margin most of his tenure, this was what was expected and he had a scorching hot seat to accomplish this each and every year.
No whining or excuse making. Its simple: 10 wins, beat Bama or find another job.
Which is a good thing, but none of which is expected this year, which is quite puzzling.

Other than this, is there really any other reason at this point to continue to harp on what our expectations ought to be for this season? How many times during the Miles Era were threads started daily for what we expected a "Good Season" to be for that coming year? We expected to compete for Championships...period.
And let's be honest...10-2 WAS NOT good enough for Miles, and we heard it OFTEN. In fact, the mythical "10 wins" became a joke for many who were up Miles' arse, suggesting that with 12 game schedules 10 wins was no longer all that impressive.
Now? we're talking ourselves into 9-3 being considered good. Simply amazing...

So...you'd rather play like Texas Tech and light up scoreboards and go 7-5, instead of bludgeoning teams and go 10-2?
Are you 12?
Miles was fired because his antiquated offense was considered the REASON for why he could not longer beat BAMA and compete for West Titles and beyond. If he had continued to play the same offense and kept winning the west, we'd be gearing up RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND to watch and LSU offense laden with FB's and RB's who are all learning the toss dive.
I swear...what's wrong with some of you?

Needs to win 9 games and not look like a scrub in the losses.
Blowout losses or losses to cupcake teams in year 2 should result in firing.
If he doesn't win 8 games and we are not even in the running for the West by November then he should be fired.
I hope there are legitimate replacement candidates (not just Lane Kiffen) that are considered if this is the year to dump Alleva and start over.

I was merely saying that you can't just look at raw W-L totals to truly determine how good or bad a team is. There's a lot of context to be considered.
Again, 9-3 with 1-point losses to Bama, UGA, and Auburn is a hell of a lot more tolerable (still not acceptable) than double digit blowouts to those teams.

I mean, if O goes 9-3, its not great, but would be hard to argue that it is a "bad" season. I guess it would show that he isn't completely driving the train off the tracks and would definitely earn him another year. As much as I dislike him as HC, 9-3 isn't a disaster.
