I had this conversation with my dad last night and he's been hating on Jefferson since last year. And he said the reason it was so close was because that Jefferson was TERRIBLE and not:

-the "strength of the team" secondary giving up 400 yards to a QB without his best receiver and top two wrs. Also continually not covering the same god damn slant play.

-retarded penalties just like last year, one that extended a drive that had turned over on downs, and the other a 15 yard late hit that brought the Tar Heels within 10 yards of the end zone. And a hold that wiped out a touchdown that would've put the game out of reach.

- inexplicable playcalling the the second half including not giving the ball to the guy who broke off a 50 yarder in the first half.

-terrible execution of onside kick recovery.

-stephen ridley not wrapping up the goddamn football.

-jasper who I thought was a groza award candidate kicking like a nervous schoolgirl.

but 15-21 and completing a variety of outs, slants, and even a deep ball that he NEVER would've completed last year? I thought Jefferson played a solid B game. Had a couple of bad throws but didn't force it, and his timing looked light years better than last year. He looked decisive when he took off to run as well. Was the interception that big of a deal with the clock running out in the half up 30-10? It looked to me like he was trying to get it out of bounds but couldn't.

If he doesn't ground the ball and take is out of field goal range the last drive doesn't matter.

he's usually a pretty intelligent football follower. Don't understand it. And there seems to the fair share of people here thinking JL should be getting snaps.

which to me is ridiculous.

Thats funny. That is exactly what my dad said about him. I thought that he looked okay. Few mistakes but he wasn't killing us.

If T-Bob doesnt hold on Ridleys TD run then the intensional grounding never happens. We can play ifs all night.

Jefferson wasnt the problem. Dude was 15-21 with 3 drops. Penalties at the wrong time and fumbles kept that game close. All fixable.

If we get the field goal on our first drive. The last drive does not matter for UNC either.

I do agree the problem is with Jefferson and his first read, and then run mentality. The offense is simplified to the point of being a high schol offense because Jefferson cannot make the reads and execute the whole offensive schemes we have to take advantage of the skill players we can put on the field. Unfortunately Jarret Lee has not shown he can do much better.

but the final result is Jefferson. They score 23 pts in a half and then take the air out of the football? that's jefferson?

that's a valid criticism. I think anyone could see that Jefferson could be a better qb, and play better.

But was HE the reason LSU almost choked that game away sat night? Or even a main reason?

Really, he wasn't. He looked a little rusty in the second half, be he's appreciably better (so far) than last year. I'm not worried about him.
And I want JL to get some snaps to see how he does and keep him ready in case JJ goes down, but I don't support a two QB system. It rarely works.

He was a main reason we were up by 20 at the half.

JJ doesn't call the plays. . .and I don't have to be a psychologic engineer (NASA), to see that.

im not sure what this means.

anyway, what was our avg starting field postion?

take away the td pass to RR what is JJ's avg comp per throw?
When is the last time youve seen this offense under JJ go 75-80 yrds in 13 /14 plays?
I hope he gets better and he prob will, but in the mean time I think JL should be given opp to get some snaps in and see if he has better luck keeping the chains moving.

I think he handicapped this team with his inability to read defenses. I think his only check off is during the option play does he pitch it or run with it. 90% of the time he calls his own number. When the other team doesn't show blitz then comes up he doesn't change the play or go the short receiver. I don't think he's terrible but a field general he is not!!!!

Do you ever ask yourself, why they constantly take the ball out of JJs hands? Obviously there's a reason they put your million dollar contract on the line.

Its not the players, its the coaches.

If the staffs were reversed on Saturday night, does anyone think that Butch Davis would have had any issues coaching the Tigers to an easy victory?
