I agree, but i think a function of that was the annual flirtation with the NFL. i think if he'd been at Bama during that time, they'd have gotten fed up with it as well.

Oh, no doubt. Bama lucked out getting the Nick who came to them with the realization that he couldn't cut it in the NFL.

People who say les makes football fun well on fake field goals and going for it on 4th down yes. On the other side how many years have we heard people bitch about the offense with the I formation and 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

if you look at his record, miles has done pretty darn good. and that's with saban in his backyard. miles is about as good as anybody not named saban. no shame in being 2nd to basically the best of all time. oh, and he's not nearly as miserable so he's got that going for him.

Saban's a championship producing coach. Saban's has a bad personality. That helps him with his players. I don't like him. But, when we beat him, and then again next year as well, we will be judged by his accomplishments. We will have beaten the best. It will start his retirement.

I'm not positive Nick would have as much sustained success as Les has had here, though, for as long as he has. In short, both probably belong best where they are now.

Alabama was one of the best teams in the country until LSU beat them in overtime in 2005. They hadn't fallen that far when Nick showed up. It was just a matter of instilling the right culture. I think Miles could have done that, he did similar at Oklahoma St. with less (Les is more). Beating Oklahoma back then was no small feat.

That said, Miles' personality would have never worked in Tuscaloosa. They wouldn't have hired him.

Word was players hated him but respected him greatly
i remember hearing the '05 team say they couldn't believe that miles didn't yell at them all the time like saban did. miles actually coached and taught. some people felt that's why saban's d tensed up in tight moments. they hadn't been really coached and were so afraid that they didn't execute correctly

Bama was sort of an organizational mess. I see Nick as a better organizational guy, at least when it comes to cleaning up messes.

I agree Les would have never "fit" in Tuscaloosa, for a lot of the same reasons I believe Nick wouldn't have long term here.

We had a pretty good beat on him before the NCG. Even when we lost in '08 and '09, LSU was much closer than they had a right to be.

I hope you're right. The last three Alabama games in Louisiana were like cruel jokes. The last two I about 95% thought we'd won.

He makes most of it fun. There are some fourth quarters that nearly killed me though.

Lil Nickie's facial expression and body language definitely changed when Kevin Steele's name was mentioned. saban looks for every little advantage and he knows steele gives the tigers some distinct advantages.

Saban is all business. He cares about victories, not players or their futures, not assistants, etc.

I was just making the point that there are Saban games I enjoy. We just haven't happened to be in those lately.

When Miles decides to coast to the finish line in fear of a big turnover... or whatever. That shite drives me mad. Case in point, MSU & UF this year, the entire day of 1/9/11 and every similar gameplan in between.

Guess how I know you've never gone through tough times with LSU football. Les would give you a lot to enjoy. 7 - 10 + winning seasons out of 10, and not one losing season, every year a bowl, 2 SEC championships, and a National Championship with a winning bowl record.

Man, you got it tough.
