You can blame a lot of things...but when you have to score 10 runs a game to win, it puts too much stress on the batters.
This X 1000! There was just no way we could win any type of tournament with this pitching staff. A game here and there when the offense is peaking but when it dips, we lost. If we have 2 more starting pitchers worth a darn, we win the west, possibly the SEC tournament, and easily host a super regional. We still wouldn’t win the CWS but could win a game or two. This will be a very different team next season.
This staff will be out hunting the country for starting pitchers and should have time to put together a decent team. Next year is when I’ll grade him a little harder. This year he gets a B- for me. I can’t give him anything better than that because he could have gotten some transfers when he came to BR. It was an option anyway. But our best pitcher was hurt this year so. Maybe a B with all the nagging injuries he’s had to deal with on top of the pitching rotation.
I think he did about as good as anyone could possibly have done with what he was given. Had we had 2 more decent pitchers, a short stop and second baseman, this team would look so much better! We had some offense but when you average 8 or 9 runs a game, you should be winning 70% to 75% of your games or more with a decent team.
JJ knows baseball and he knows what he needs to do and now he’s got an early start to fix those things. He’ll get the right players in here. He’s got a number 1 class and some returning star power to work with. We’ll need a few transfers

He needs to crack some skulls instead of trying to be their buddies. For the most part with the exception of Crews and Doughty, this team was lazy and to cool for school.

You do realize the more sh*t talk and negative comments about LSU Baseball and Coach J, the more recruits will question their commitment to our program! SHUT THE HELL UP!

Agree. Outside a couple players this was not a very athletic team. Let’s see what he does with his roster.

A
Got everything out of this roster that he could. Just don’t have the pitching to go any farther in all honesty
Most importantly the players have bought in and respect the hell out of him. The future looks great

Seems like you and I both agree that JJ’s first year was overall pretty positive. I do think we’ll be better next year and that JJ is the right man for the job.
...that said, this is consistently the dumbest thing posted on the rant. Players don’t give a shite about what fans post on a message board. And if they do, we don’t want them. You insult them when you assume they’re this mentally weak.

Players and recruits love Jay. The program is in great hands.

Pretty darn good! A lot of good baseball. Pitching exceeded expectations even though we didn't have any top level starters. Hitting was top level all year long. Fielding was not good at all this is where Johnson can improve his coaching prowess. Overall grade B

I never expected Jay to take this 2022 team to Omaha this season. Not a swipe at Mainieri but Paul really did not set this program up after the 2017 NC Runner up team.
The pitching was not consistent when this year’s team went to Minute Maid Park and during the first three weeks of SEC play.
Sweeping Vandy was great but Vandy wasn’t Vandy and we avoided playing Tennessee during conference play.
Winning four more SEC games than last year and finishing fourth in the conference was a step in the right direction. You never got the sense that this team had leadership or the pitching and fielding to compete with the elite programs in Omaha. Also, I would add that Omaha likely belongs to Tennessee this year anyway.
I think next season after a recruiting cycle will tell us a lot more about jay Johnson and his abilities at LSU. I would give jay Johnson a grade of B- this year.

The season itself gets a C+ by LSU standards. But, after losing Coleman, we had very little pitching left. Johnson and Kelly did a nice job with managing the pitching staff given what we had. We also saw improvement in overall batting and baserunning. Our win total increased as well. All of that taken into account with losing the regional the way we did gets Jay a B- as a coach in the grand scope of everything. Anything kess is a disservice to where the program was headed when he took over and the timing of it.
