Because LSU spent a lot of money on #9 jerseys and would have been stuck with a lot of inventory if both Delpit and Burrow switched numbers. There’s my hot take.

Why can players wear 21 and 37, but not 20? LSU and their jersey stuff is pretty inconsistent.

Cannon won the greatest individual award at a time when you had smaller rosters. I’d imagine it has a lot to do with numbers. There are more former players that deserve to have their jersey retired in the stadium. If LSU began retiring numbers, it would become difficult to issue jerseys to 85/105 players. More double numbers and then you’d have to figure out if only one is on field at same time.
