Yes indeed, and lets do away with crime, cancer and global warming while we are at it.

How many times have you tuned in to see the big Harvard vs. Dartmouth matchup in the past 5 years? Since academics and sports mix so well and all

You do this and more and more kids will start going pro out of high school in the sports they can (baseball and Europe for basketball). And could even start a semi-pro league for football (or give an existing one a huge bump).

This is a horrible idea if you're a fan of watching sports. Raise the academic standards & the quality (of the athlete) on the field decreases.

Due to their academic standards...Vanderbilt basically has an annual reservation at the bottom of the conference in football. When they finally do start winning b/c of a good coach...he bolts to Penn State so he can win championships.

Academics and sports mix very well in many universities across the country.

Maybe that’s what you would allow your kid to do.

There are obviously exceptions to the rule, but I doubt this would be good for LSU.

I'm honestly amazed at how Stanford is able to do it.

Not true. You’re just ignorant with your mindless stereotypes.

I'm not sure you're aware, but a large majority of these top high school recruits have families that value a possible professional sports career over a college education.

And if they can't qualify or maintain eligibility in college, it'd be a no-brainer for them to go pro instead of hanging out in a JUCO.

ETA:

And as a proponent of more people going to trade schools instead of college, I don't have a problem with it. Sports could be their trade, and maybe doing that full time after high school, instead of balancing college curriculum and athletics, gives them a better chance to succeed in that sport.

But obviously, not everyone has a pro future in athletics, so this is limited.

Are you a teacher or something? Some kids don't grow up wanting to be doctors or lawyers. They grow up wanting to play professional sports. If you make it harder for them to get into college...they'll just skip college & go to the pros.

How am I ignorant, & how am I stereotyping? I'd love to hear your explanation on why this would be a good thing.

You must be concerned only about football and basketball. Ironically, the only revenue producing sports at most schools.

You haven't really said anything of substance. All you've done is call people sad, despicable, ignorant, & mindless. You're also acting like you're morally & intellectually superior to everyone. All you're doing is giving juvenile responses to people that are actually giving legitimate arguments.

To be honest...you sound like a pencil dick moron.

The last time I checked college stood for higher education. True, not all high school graduates want to be doctors or lawyers, but if you are going to college you have to meet the standards set for higher education. I understand that athletics have become big business and produce much revenue and because of that universities have lowered their standards and changed curriculums to accommodate many students that have no business being in college while spending thousands of dollars on tutors to keep them eligible. There is eventually going to be a breaking point because of skyrocketing salaries of coaches and the arms race. The sooner the better.
