What if he just stopped showing up for practice and games?
What if he had a drug problem?
What if he murdered someone and couldn't play football?
To say signing bonuses should never be repaid is ignorant.
I think as long if he is on the team, then he'll get the guaranteed money. He was on the team for 3 years. The 1st year was 7 millions + signing bonus. 2nd year was 10m, so he made 22 millions in two years. He got 9.55 millions from 3rd year (doing nothing) but he was ON THE TEAM.

I doubt JR signed a changed contract which would take his money away
THIS!!
I can't think of any plausible scenario where JR's agents would allow him to basically give away $9 million of guaranteed money.
NO chance.

How'd you get that from what you quoted:
quote:
in no way, shape, or form should Jamarcus have to repay GUARANTEED money
You took a comment he made and made some pretty silly assumptions, lol.

Good for them. He was a miserable FAILURE!!!!
The Raiders made the decision to pay him a buttload of money and both parties agreed to it. There is no guarantee that the QB will turn out to be the next Peyton Manning. It's always a gamble.

This just highlights the utter stupidity of paying so much money to unproven players. The pay structure in professional sports is plain ridiculous.
The same player holding out for eight million a year would play for $150,000 if that's all he could get because there is nothing most of these players could do to earn $150,000 outside of sports. I don't blame the players, I blame the owners for allowing it to get so out of hand.

Did Master P negotiate his contract?

quote:That is very common on this board. Most of the rantards think every highly recruited football player should be starting as a freshman and our coaches are only playing an upperclassman players because of seniority. They state this as fact all the time. The rantards, however, have never seen a practice or been in a team meeting. They don't have a clue as to how much of the playbook a freshman has been able to pick up or the amount of information the coaching staff is asking him to learn to play his position.
Has nothing to do with discussion or speculation....has everything to do with people stating something as fact w/o the necessary information.

The Radiers still owe JR money.

He had been paid about $36.4 million through last season and was still owed $3 million at the time of his release.

Raiders want refund

Regardless of whether or not the Raiders have a case, it just seems like a poor business decision and reeks of petty "revenge." What sought after free agent is going to go to an organization who treats players like this? Also, future #1 picks might pull a John Elway or Eli Manning on them and just refuse to go. Or at the very least hold out for a more iron-clad guarantee. The didn't do their homework and made a terrible pick, now they should just take ittake it and move on.

This is not about getting their money back. That would be stupid. Guaranteed money is what it is. This about retaliation at JR and hopes this will hurt his chance to get on with another team. Al Davis scorched earth move. Pretty classless IMO. I hate defending JR but he failed as a player on the field only.

----------------------------------------------------Do they have any valid claim to this?
Guaranteed money is guaranteed. He didn't fail a drug test, he sucked------------------------------
Maybe they claim this under the "lemon law" Too bad he sucked so bad........no work ethic is no excuse .........very bad investment

That's the point. People who don't know jack shite about the contract are saying it's guaranteed. Only people who know the wording are the Raiders and Russell.
Exactly. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Al did the same thing when he fired Shanahan and Kiffin, the Raiders just like to embarass themselves.
