The year before Edwards set the record in receiving against Nebraska, La Tech had a good enough defense to hang with LSU.

Troy Edwards and Rattay teamed up for 400 yards against Nebraska, in Frank Solich's first game as H.C. They had three good recievers at that time, but Edwards just lit it up.

And Nebraska won the game by 29 points. Look, I'm not saying that Louisiana Tech would never have beaten LSU if they'd played regularly over the years. But it'd have been rare. Very rare.

If La Tech had their defense the year before the Nebraska game I doubt that Nebraska would have won by 29 and LSU would have had hell playing Tech.

Also, Tech went 9 and 2 and didn't get a bowl bid and LSU did. They either beat Alabama or Auburn that year.

at least we can see where the money is going now...as opposed to the past when it just kept the utility bills paid. I imagine getting puked on, flipped the bird, cussed out by 8 year olds, and hit in the head by flying beer bottles will feel a lot better knowing the money we get for our suffering is paying for some nice shiny new facilities back in Ruston.

Now that is funny...who's kid cussed them the last time?

The 1990 team was, IMO, Tech's best team. They had Willie Roaf at tackle, and 5 or 6 guys who played in the NFL including Doug Evans (DB). They had a DE (Eric Shaw) who was kicked off Florida State's team who was the best athlete on the team. They had Chris Boniol (Dallas Cowboys) at kicker.

That team tied Maryland in the Independence Bowl 34-34.

When Louisiana Tech went 9-2, it was 2-2 against major conference teams. The two referenced wins were a 7 point win over a California team that finished 3-8 and by 6 over an Alabama team that finished 4-7. They only played one team, 10-3 Auburn, that finished with a winning record all year and lost that one by 49-13.

The next best record among the teams the played was 5-6 by UAB. Tech beat them by 3. Otherwise, they beat 3-8 Bowling Green, 5-7 Northeast Louisiana, 2-9 Central Michigan, 2-9 Arkansas State, 4-7 Boise State, and 1-10 Southwestern Louisiana. Their second loss was to 4-7 Arkansas.

LSU finished the regular season 8-3 that year against a much, much tougher schedule. It beat Alabama by 27 points. It lost to Auburn by 3. It also beat Arkansas.

if those people weren't so damn obnoxious it wouldn't be that bad. It's the way they act win OR lose that upsets me about this.

Yes. And that Maryland team finished 6-5-1. Three of the eight wins were over 1-10 I-AA Stephen F. Austin, 5-6 I-AA McNeese, and 7-5 I-AA Northeast Louisiana. Another four were over 3-7-1 Arkansas State, 5-6 Southwestern Louisiana, 3-8 Tulsa, and 3-7-1 Akron. The lone "quality" win was by one point over 9-4 Colorado State.

Meanwhile, they lost to 5-6 East Carolina and 7-5 Western Michigan along with 8-3-1 Auburn.

That may have been Tech's best team. But it was mediocre at best in the context of I-A.

That's the thing to understand. Most of Louisiana Tech's I-A wins have been over teams from the MAC, other former I-AAs, Sun Belt teams, etc. It has never had a "good" I-A team. In its best years, Louisiana Tech has had a mediocre I-A squad. Most years, it's been weaker than average.

Like I said, if Louisiana Tech had played LSU every year over the years, the Bulldogs might have some wins. But the series would be very lopsided. Maybe along the lines of LSU/Tulane and probably worse than that.

Tulane is 22-67-7 all time against LSU for a 26.5% win rate. no way Tech would have done that well

Those late 90s with Rattay teams maybe could have beat LSU.

Even then, I think LSU would have won. We still would have scored at will on Tech.

Oh, by the way, that 1990 Tech team beat a ranked Colorado State and if I recall, either tied or beat South Carolina on the road.

yeah, that will settle who is the powerhouse team of Louisiana....Tech needs to worry about whether or not they're the best team along I-20 in Louisiana before they come a little farther South to take that elite arse-whipping.

It's all in fun. Nobody thinks Tech is as good as LSU or would have beaten them more than once or twice if they played in the 1980s and 1990s.

Here's a tidbit though. La. Tech has more NFL Hall of Famers than:

Florida
Florida State
Auburn
BYU

and as many as Georgia and Tennessee.

Not bad. By the way, congrats to Fred Dean on his induction this weekend.

Not bad at all, not bad at all.....between Tech and Grambling, quite a lot of HOF's from one small area of North Louisiana...

You dont know what you are talking about.Tech owned McNeese and USL in the 70,s .Tech won the small college NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in the mid 70s. The team that had Fred Dean and Barber ,both very good pros.

If you honestly think that the Gerry DiNardo-era Tiggers were better than the Tim Rattay/Troy Edwards Bulldogs (who, in that late-90s era, just happened to beat an SEC Champion Alabama team twice on the road), I'd say you're the one who needs to lay off the crack.

Tech DESTROYED NLU in the 70s it was much later NLU won thier championship with Humphries. NLU was horrible in the seventies ,without looking it up I doubt NLU beat Tech over 1 or 2 times during the 70 s if that
