I know he is a CEO type coach, and I even pointed that out several times in my posts.
The fact is that Mack plays in a weaker conference and has an easier recruiting base. Furthermore, he's lived and died by his assistants and no one has said otherwise.
Miles has had more bad hires than good ones at LSU. People just looked at 1 year (2007) to justify his selections.
Crowton - QBs/offense regressed
Studs - OL regressed no technique
McCarthy - WR regressed and not near as good at blocking
Porter - RB about the same
Henson - TE improved
Yano - too early, but looks good
On Defense:
two good hires before this year:
Bo - great defense (but looks like he's calling a much different defense at NU now)
Dunbar - Great hire for the DL
Busts:
Earl Lane
Mallory
Peveto
Robinson (but he's done very well at special teams)
Jury still out:
Chavis - looking okay
Cooper - drastic improvement from DBs
Haley - not looking so good seeing as he couldn't get Alem ONCE to keep contain.
Not a very good track record for a coach that can't seem to give much coaching support and is just a CEO making $3.75M

You said it. CEO. I think he hires the OC and DC and lets them go. He dosnt have great knowledge of any one position. IMO.

Maybe that's how u work or lead.... Not everyone needs that.
A HC needs to lead based on his personality
I think Miles has do well overall....regardless of how u get there the record speaks for itself. PLEASE NO "SABAN'S TALENT" REPLY Saban went 9-4 with his talent in year 4.
If Saban's method was the key then everyone would have that method.

Mallory / Peveto experent was a band aid solution..,not a real hire.
With the Offense in disarray when RP eas kicked off and no back-up with any game play Miles rolled the dice not to makea any drastic move on D to avoid a major overhaul on that side the ball while he tried to piecemeal the O side of the ball. He opted to run the same D, whichI don't think he really liked.
Also I don't think Miles liked what was out there as a DC choice to offer anyone a3 year contract.

It is funny how things change. I remember when miles first came to lsu everyone praised him for being hands off. Saban was too hands on, and les miles let his coaches coach and do their thing. Les has not changed, the only thing that has changed is his assistants. I agree though he needs top assistants to thrive. I am also pretty sure that if he tweaks the offensive side of his staff again, and gets the right assistants, everyone will be happy again with the end results.

Ariborne, nice try with the bullshite band-aid excuse for Malveto. They were hired well before RP was kicked off the team in the late spring. They were "promoted" in early January.
The fact is Miles effed up big time, but he tried to fix it after year one.
I honestly think his judgment of coaching skills is utter shite, as seen with several of his hires. Amazing how bad our DBs got after Bo left. Amazing how great our DB and LBer play has improved in one year under Chavis and Cooper. Amazing how bad Earl Lane was as a coach.
Miles has shown recruiting is more important than coaching to him, and that is what has hurt this team.
He's not a bad coach, and anyone calling for his head needs to get a reality check, but to ignore his massive hiring blunders and the size of his contract is an injustice to LSU.
