I'm curious why you ask about a game 20 years ago?

Listed capacity now is 92,542 but for every big game, there are more than that "in the stadium".

yes, your math a bit off, thanks for your curiousity...sure, many games are listed over capacity, but not by 5,000 or so people or about 6.5% of capacity, I would guess we never had another game near this % or number over capacity, note that this game was WAY higher than any other of the era for that stadium size, we opened with FSU that year, still odd to me that the Wash game is such an outlier, must be two sd's from normal (look it up)

That was my SR year. Never did understand what made that game so 'well attended'. What was odd was that The Reveille claimed the student section wasn't full which was hard to believe as it was as crammed as it could be.

It was unusally mild that night, at least for BR in late Sept, so maybe that factored into it.

in 70's and early 80's student section was huge
for big games. that like so many things: the oranges thrown at florida state...rushing the
field after ole miss game in '70 (before fences)
the overall rowdiness..poking mike in front of the student section half a dozen times..will
never happen again

the amount of booze in the stadium was a lot more years ago at night games.visiting teams dodged whiskey half pints.

modern security and the change in the makeup
of the type of fans in stands have changed
the experience some for the good and some
like tv time outs constantly are just part of the
times we live in.

We were sitting in the upper part of the SS. If you didn't go to the bathroom before you got up there you were screwed. You could look down and see NO aisle to walk down. Had a few people that tried to go down through the masses that never returned.

I think all the schools play with the numbers. Kyle field averaged 86,000 again fans again last year and the stadium only holds 82,000. They had 86,000 for Rice last week as well. For Nebraska a couple years ago they had 91,000 and the fire marshal said that will never happen again.

My freshman year and a great game to be at. We just peed where we stood - no chance to get to a bathroom. The thing I remember most was walking out on the ramps the students were jumping up and down in unison and chanting LSU. The ramps were literally shaking. Very cool game.

I was at that game in the student section and you can smell the strong whiskey in the air, lol. The game was a complete blowout for the Tigers. A lot of the media people thought Steve Pueller, QB, UW was going to have a big game against us and we ran the ball down their throats and won by the score of 40-14. That was former Coach Jerry Stovall last big victory at LSU.

I was in Tiger Band and that game rocked. Washington won the Pac-10 that year as well as the Rose Bowl and LSU had it's only winless SEC season, finished at 4-7 with Stovall winning his last game as coach over the hated weenies of Tulane.
It was a most memorable night for me because it was my youngest brothers first game in Tiger Stadium. He loved it and he had pictures of me in the old Tiger Band uniform with him. He's gone as well as my parents who were there that night. Very fond memories of that night.
