Joe's running, designed and scrambling, had paid dividends all game.

The designed Draw RPO in the fourth quarter was a thing of beauty. Pulled out something that took advantage of what we had successfully done all game, exactly when we needed a successful play and executed it brilliantly.

Watch the Bama LB and Safety pull up opening the middle of the field for the easy throw.

QB Draw RPO

Every play that Brady calls, successful or not, is done for a reason. It’s done to set up something else later in the drive or game. Methodical playcalling that is done to put the defense out of position the next time is something we haven’t seen in since the Wizard was at his peak in 07

It’s a thing of beauty

Those QB runs are demoralizing for a defense. They feel like they've got a play covered in that split second Joe hesitates before running...then BAM first down.

I hate when that happens against us so I know how they felt. Huge plays.

All of my bitching about the hurry up HB draws on 2nd/3rd and short paid off on that 3rd down conversion too. I kept saying we better be saving a Burrow keeper off of this look for when we need it, and sure enough, we pulled it out at the right time vs Alabama.

The football gods returned the favor on Sunday with Matt Ryan.

BAMA was getting insane jumps off of LSU snaps early in the game. I kept waiting for them to switch up the counts.
I don't think anyone expected LSU to snap it mid-play clock when they should have been in complete run the clock mode.

Uhm...it's a cool play but it's not technically an RPO. Look at the offensive line, they are all pass blocking.

Except for the fact that Joe Brady doesn't call the plays cause he is not the offensive coordinator. However, Joe Brady does mesh very well with Steve Ensminger who is officially the play-caller.

It was very on brand to go hurry up there, but the keep was the first of the year IIRC.

You're right about what you should do traditionally.

They have to. You cant be downfield blocking on an rpo play, if he throws, it would be a penalty

Most people prob won’t agree but I think it was a busted play that joe improvised. He just seemed kind of panicky after the snap. I don’t think it was a designed play, that’s just me

It fooled everyone at my party, but completely fooled the Gumps.

I can see that. If it wasn't a designed play, it should be. It is essentially a jump pass on steroids.

Disagree with you there. The Tackles invite their guys up field which works for a draw or a pass. So you cant' tell anything from that.

Magee looks to be run blocking, and Cush double teams and then moves to the LB like its a run.

You're wrong. The offensive line run blocks on RPO plays. As it is a run play unless the player being keyed on doesn't bite in which case the ball is handed off. However, if the player being keyed on does bite like most of the time, the QB doesn't hand off the ball but passes the ball to the receiver that should be behind the player being keyed on.

As the rule on RPOs is the offensive line can't block beyond 3 yards from the line of scrimmage before the ball is thrown, but nonetheless, I've often seen offensive linemen beyond the three yards and not being called for a penalty on numerous occasions

It was designed. Watch Joe. Gets the shotgun snap, sets his feet for a second to let the pass rush get up field, then runs forward. He's absolutely not panicking...he had great protection on this play. He'd been harassed a ton this game and was unfazed, so I don't think he just lost faith on this one all of a sudden. You can tell the way he's holding the ball he's not improvising. He's doing what he intended to. Calm, cool and collected...eyes forward the whole time.

To OP, I must've rewound this play a hundred times to watch how it sucked the LB and safety up. Just excellent execution.
