Dude has stepped up big. The resident basketball trolls and low IQ'ers expect a damn triple double every night.

Plays elite defense, get to the rim, can knock down a timely 3 (see bama when down 13)

I see a lot of you lumping a guard into a one size fits all category.

A distributing point guard is different from scoring PG which is different from a combo guard.... which is different from a pure shooting 2. He's playing out of position and doing an excellent job.

Love the teams heart and can appreciate what it does great while acknowledging its defecits

At any rate, Gaines deserves some props. I know others feel the same.....but damn, its exhausting reading all the BS comments that are flat out vad takes or troll attempts

He’s grown up in front of our very eyes.

If he can improve his offensive game, he can be a stud!

Of all the players on the roster Gaines has the most game turning capability. Look at when his baskets come, down 3 he hits a 3 to tie, down 2 he hits a 2 in the paint, down 3 he gets a steal and a basket then he makes every free throw from the time we’re down 6 until we finish off the win. Nobody makes more clutch plays for us on both sides of the ball. He needs to learn how to pace himself and stay error free between the big plays but he probably has the most upside of anyone on this team.

Also just to show some of his improvement, since the God awful Auburn game he is shooting around 39% from 3

He’s had better shot selection as of late

Right now he is great at what he is supposed to be which is a full go no brakes spark off the bench that can play great defense. As a true 30+ minutes a game PG he will leave you pulling your hair out one minute then wondering how great he is the next.

Right.... And those with eyes and common sense understand that and expect the good with the bad. I can't say I haven't put my head in my palm at some of the things he does on the court but usually within one or two minutes later I'm out of my seat because he made some extraordinary play

Gaines is low-key (maybe not that low after that block the other night) a freak athlete

i think his skinny and lanky frame kind of makes it looks less impressive but he's an absolute freak

I’ve made some posts about Gaines, many times. I agree with you wholeheartedly he is such a talent, he is a defensive nightmare, he can steal the ball from ANY guard and is improving every game. I can’t bring up post from the past pages, but someone who can please do. Sissidog02 loves me some Gaines!

He's my favorite player on the team. Definitely not the best shooter or driver in the lane, but he plays HARD. Harder than anybody else on the floor.

He's pretty much the sole reason our turnover margin is where it is. He plays chaotic and fast, so IMO that explains why he's either your favorite or your least favorite.

I love Gaines he brings a lot of energy to the team, and he's starting to play less "wreckless" of late.

But let's slow down just a bit on this:

quote:

get to the rim

He never finishes with a basket on his driving to the basket.

That’s just not true.

I don’t hate on him but is he going to become the Lindsey Scott or Myles Brennan of this team? Everyone adores him but nobody is quite sure why

And look at how he’s progressed as more responsibility has been given to him. He has his worst game vs Auburn in his first start but since then has had career highs 3 times in the next 5 starts.

Then hits 3 threes in a row to get us within 1 with a chance to win. You’re not an LSU fan you’re just an ignorant troll who has no idea what he’s talking about and pulls against the Tigers.

It’s not hard to figure out why people like our flashiest defender on a defensive team.

And your comparison is bizarre. Backup quarterbacks are beloved precisely because they aren’t out there making visible mistakes, whereas Gaines is liked for almost the opposite reason He makes tons of visible mistakes but offsets them with visible playmaking.
