when we've got them backed up inside their endzone, i would like to see RS fielding punts at midfield. i can see him catching the ball at the 50 and speeding his way into the endzone so fast the whole stadium would have their mouths hanging open saying "Wha-a-a-t?"

With one substitution, I made your statement fit what we've done all year.

Yeah, why bench TH -- the dude is a great returner on punts.

I would prefer to have tried that during the Tulane game to test him out. A true freshman returning his first punt return in a huge game may not be the best time to test it out. Perhaps put him on kickoff return against Bama.

has trindon ever has a really good punt return (over 30 yards or so) against a BCS opponent?

if we're playing north texas or tulane, he's awesome
but where are the results agianst the big boys?
honest question

The last time we did this, he fumbled.

He returns them for at least 5 yards when he actually catches and holds onto them.
TH definitely has great speed, but his hands are suspect under pressure.

2006 - Was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring what proved to be the game-winning touchdown against Arkansas on a 92-yard kickoff return
2007 - Returned a kick 98 yards for a score in the win over Ole Miss ... Play earned him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors
I'm not going to search back individual games, I pulled this off of LSUsports.net... but it provides evidence to your question.

most of the big boys are much better at covering punts...in addition, they're probably punting from further down the field, so Jones is probably fielding those punts. In addition, TH's biggest impact as a punt or kick returner is causing the other team to kick shorter kicks. There were several games last year where most of the punts were intentionally kicked out of bounds.

TH has Kevin Steltz arms. The ball ALWAYS hits his chest first.

i think he'd be pretty good at returning punts

This.
How many big boys actually punt to TH?
The ones that do are the ones that pay.

so in his 2.5 years or so of near full time PR duties, no major team has let a punt slip and allowed TH to return one?

Trindon didn't start returning punts until last year.
And then there's this
... Accumulated 279 yards on 21 punt returns and ranked 16th in the nation in average yards per punt return (13.3) ... Was kicked away from most of the season

i assume this is for last year
2 long punt returns against bad non-BCS teams likely accounted for at least 150 of these yards (on 2 returns)

You are (supposedly) better than this. Come on.
He returned one punt in 2006 and one in 2007. Last year, he had 21 punt returns in 13 games. Instead of acting like you know shite, maybe know what you are talking about before you ask dumb questions.
Also note that he has been sharing those duties, the whole time, with Chad Jones.

To those who care -- in 2008 and 2009, LSU has played 15 games against BCS opponents. TH has returns in 11 of those games, and a total of 20 returns for 171 yds, with a long of 19. Better teams allow no punt returns. It's called coverage.
Note that in LSU's loss, LSU had 0 punt returns. It's part of the strategy of the game. Not that this matters to SFP.
