Not a negative, but seriously, how difficult is a dunk for a 7'1" guy, guarded by a 6'6" guy? Shaq was taller and heavier than every person that guarded him.
I've already explained to you that part of what made Shaq the better player is his size; yes, he got lots of easy baskets because he was so much bigger than everyone guarding him. However, the discussion is not, "Which LSU player was better if we ignore natural advantages given by size?" The question is, "Which LSU player was better?" You can't say that CJ was better because Shaq had an easier time due to his size; if Shaq was better because he was so big, he was still better.

Google "Greatest college basketball players of all time"
For what it is worth there is a great article under Grantland written by Chuck Klosterman and he plainly states the article is subjective.
He lands at 37th of all time here but the interesting thing is all the names bringing back memories.
Chris Jackson has never been mentioned as greatest college basketball player of all time and his NBA career was nothing spectacular. Enjoyed reading the arguments here but I believe the article places him about where he needs to be

Great enough to be called one of the best freshman of all-time and great enough to be called one of the greatest NCAA scorers ever.

It only took a couple of weeks into his freshman season for Jackson to let the world know about his scoring abilities as he scored 48 and 53 points in the first month of his college career. His season high of 55 (with nine 3 pointers) came soon after against Ole Miss and he would go on to average 30 points as a freshman and set the NCAA freshman scoring record with 966 points.

Rhetorical, adjective.
- expressed in terms intended to persuade or impress.
- (of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.
Unfortunately, it did not persuade or impress. And since this is an open discussion, I'm allowed to respond and point out how wrong you are as much as I desire. You made an attempt to re-frame the debate into one about some weird "height-adjusted value," discounting one of Shaq's major strengths as a player. Whether you did this by making a statement, asking a question, or asking a rhetorical question, it is wrong and dumb and silly. So I responded.

I played against CJ in a pickup game when he was a sophomore.
Lightening fast.
To experience attempting to guard him was humbling.
He was a nice fellow as well.

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked to make a point rather than to elicit an answer.

Your stats are BS stats. True shooting percentage --
quote:
TS% True Shooting Percentage; the formula is PTS / (2 * TSA). TSA True Shooting Attempts; the formula is FGA + 0.44 * FTA.

Makes me sick seeing that starting lineup announced. What a waste of talent. I wonder what coach K or Pitino could have done with the same lineup.

And Shaq was better
No. You simply can't compare the talents and skills of Chris Jackson to Shaq much less say Shaq was better. Shaq was a great big man. Jackson was a great basketball player.

Dude, I posted the definition of rhetorical. Why did you feel the need to post almost the exact same definition? Also, just because you WANTED your rhetorical question to end the conversation does not mean I am not ALLOWED to answer. That's not how discussions work.

The only reason you would bother making weird personal attacks is because you know you can't actually argue on merit. I accept your concession.

TS% is not a "BS" stat. It is a scaled measure of points per shot attempt. Free throw attempts are included, but discounted due to the fact that about half of all missed free throws are not "reboundable." If you have a better measure of shooting efficiency you should point it out. The entire point of using TS% is to combine FG% (where Shaq is miles ahead), FT% (where Shaq is obviously far behind), and 3% (where Jackson is good and Shaq is a non-factor).

Sure you can; I did. All you have to do is look at each player's statline, notice that Jackson scored more points but didn't provide a lot of value in any other area, and have some way to reconcile that against Shaq's somewhat-less-potent offense but drastically better defense and rebounding.

Shaq was a great big man. Jackson was a great basketball player.
A big man is a type of basketball player. In fact, a big man is generally the most valuable type of basketball player. So if Shaq was a great big man, he must also have been a great basketball player.

As pointed out above-- Shaq disagrees with you. But keep shouting at the wind.
