Ignoring possessions where LSU's defense did well (i.e. 3 and outs, or limited yardage), here is how quality opponnents' possessions looked against the LSU D. Not all of these possessions resulted in points, but if they were sustained drives that helped to tire the LSU D, I counted them. The positive trend is real, and seems to have really come together for Auburn.

Successful Possessions by Opposing Offenses:
Texas: 8 possessions, 73 plays
Florida: 6 possessions, 71 plays
Miss St: 7 possessions, 49 plays
Auburn: 5 possessions, 38 plays

I realize it's not exactly earth shattering news that LSU's defense has played better lately, but I thought it interesting to quantify.

I agree but.. Texas & Florida Offense >>> Miss St. & Auburn Offense.

I believe we have played better though, it was huge getting Lawrence/Logan healthy and the development of Shelvin as a destructive force in the middle.

Stevens/Delpit seemed to take a few games to get in the rhythm of playing together, they are playing lights out right now.

Weakest part of our D is the pass coverage of Phillips/Queen/Clark. They are great in run support though.

Also not just amount of successful possessions, but also % of successful possessions:

Texas: 8 successful / 12 total = 66.7%
Florida: 6/10 = 60%
MSU: 7/13 = 53.8%
Auburn: 5/15 = 33.3%

I don't disagree, but I would also say Auburn > Miss St., yet the trend remains chronological.

I think Aranda started off the season putting a little too much on the defense's plate. He had a veteran team coming back and got a little too fancy, I believe, and the players weren't playing fast because they were overthinking it.

He seems to have simplified things a bit and the players are letting their natural talents shine through. I think we are peaking at the right time.

They are not weak in pass coverage. Other OCs are good at manipulating formations to get matchups with our LBs covering wide receivers or pass catching TEs - guys our DBs should be covering.
