PREDICTION:

Their guards cannot keep our 3 from driving to the basket, Waters, Mays and Smart should have big games going to the basket. Yale doesn't have a good low post defense either. We should be able to score off the post with ease. LSU won't need a lot of 3's to beat this team. The only issue is the refs. If LSU gets screwed like they did against Fla. (24 fouls called against LSU) it could be a long day. I'd stat off playing off Naz in the post and let our guards cut to the basket. If Naz isn't playing well I'd go with the high screen and rolls or run some isolation and let Waters get to the rim off the dribble. LSU should not start jacking up 3's, they should be able to penetrate off the dribble or get the ball to the post with Naz or Bigby-Williams or Emmitt. On offense Yale is patient but not overly quick. LSU should get a few steals against this team. Again, how successful LSU is will depend on how the refs are calling the game. LSU should win regardless. But if the refs are letting LSU play then I can see LSU winning by 25. If LSU is getting screwed I can see a 10 point win. For LSU to lose this game they'd have to really bomb.

Watch out for the upset here! Just looking at Yale's statistics, they can shoot the 3 from all 5 positions and can score. If the refs continue to penalize us over the Will Wade saga and refuse to call a good game we could see a very similar game as we did vs Florida. Not sure what their FG% in the 2nd half was but it sure did look like 100% lol. If we can finish shots at the rims and LSU is one of the best at getting into the paint the 2nd shot opportunities we should win by 20 with our athletes. The major difference between the two other than experience is they can hit 3pt shots and we simply cannot guard them or make them. History shows when a team gets hot from distance they can win against anyone. I just hope for a clean game(s) and solid officiating in our run at the Final 4!

I’m feeling irrationally nervous for this game. Probably just from the “experts” picking the upset

I've been running numbers on Yale and for the life of me I can't figure out why I should be nervous.

Q1 - 0-3
Q2 - 1-2

I feel like people are worried about their 37.4% three point % but only 28.9% of their points are from three's (257th in NCAA). They don't really shoot three's. As a team they average 7.4 makes on 20.2 attempts. Its not like they are making 14 on 40 attempts.

They have a good core but they are not deep. If LSU gets a few more calls than they did vs Florida our style of play could really have them in trouble.

They don't play zone defense which is good for LSU. They don't turn people over which is good for LSU.

Their best win is neutral vs Miami. That's their only top 100 win all year.

Also, they don't force a ton of fouls. I get most worried about LSU playing teams that shoot a lot of FTs because our bigs have gotten into some foul trouble at times. Yale shoots inside but they dont really force fouls.

I just don't really see a situation where LSU loses this game if they play decent basketball. And if you don't play at least decent basketball you shouldn't win in the tournament.

Everything you said could not be more accurate. This is not the type of team that LSU struggles with. Any team that wants to outscore us, I’m more than happy to play.

Unless the NCAA is totally out to screw us and call basically no fouls on Yale, they are screwed. The one thing LSU has done all year long is put people in foul trouble. Yale is insanely thin. As you mentioned, their core is good but their bench is weak.

KBW said a few things in his interview that makes me know the team is focused and have been given a pleathora of nformation on Yale and know about as much as they can

I tend to agree. LSU WANTS to get out and run. Their strategy is "our athletes are simply better than yours. We are going to make you try to out-athlete us and we don't think you can".

My only concern is that while Yale plays uptempo, it's very much controlled (unlike, say, Arkansas). This LSU team has a tendency to get lazy and lost on D. One missed step and a guy can back cut you without you even knowing. (E. Williams and Taylor terrify me here because they are the most prone to getting lost).

If there was ever a game for LSU to attack the rim and simply get the ball on the glass, this is probably it. Hopefully the fast pace won't lure LSU into taking 24+ 3's like they did in games vs. Ark. or Auburn.

This SHOULD be a style of game LSU wants to play if they can lock in on defense

I would be okay with a first half ban on three point shots. I know its crazy but literally telling players you HAVE to go inside. No three's, just drive. That would get their heads moving in the right direction.

This isn't a small Yale team but I think LSU's athleticism needs to push the ball to the basket. Yale rebounded fine in the Ivy League but they are playing a different animal. Tigers should shoot layups and get rebounds and force Yale to foul guys.

My biggest fear is LSU taking 25+ three's and only making 3 or 4. That would be too many empty possessions.

More inside touches the better, then start looking for the kickout.

S I will have my secretary to tell Humberto to pick you up at 7 sharp. From there, a little fishing off Key Largo followed by some nice braised Marlin and some 30 year MacAllan.

Do not forget our coach Flies out of the island at 9 am sharp. Puts us in Jacksonville and in our seats at 11:30 their time.

Are any of yall actually going? I was really close to pulling the trigger but I'm having a baby in a month and my wife wasn't keen to the idea of me leaving her unattended...
