Completely made them up but I don't think Daniels is going to wing it all over the field in game 1 either.

I hope he throws more than 35 times

If he throws more than 35 times it’s because we can’t run the ball and are losing. He may throw for over 300 yards because we have explosive playmakers at WR that are gonna eventually make huge plays. But the game plan will be to be much more balanced and efficient. I think his yards/attempt passing are gonna be high, and he’s not gonna need to throw anywhere close to 35 times to accumulate yards if we’re able to run the ball to soften the defense.

Do you think Brian Kelly is Mike leach?

No. He isn't the offensive coordinator either. We throw it 30+ times this game. And I attribute that partially to my confidence that the defense will help us maintain the ball.

No, they’re both going to play meaningful series.

Both have still been taking reps with the first team and it’s clear neither has separated enough to be “the guy”.

I think this is going to become more common across CFB in the portal era - unless you have a Heisman candidate, divide the snaps between 1A and 1B.

No, but Brian Kelly is our coach, and he’s not gonna sling it around like we have been the past few years. Because he doesn’t think that gives us a “tactical advantage.” He’s more concerned with winning than beating teams by 40 points.

For sure. He’s not post 2008 Les Miles. We’ll throw a lot on early downs to stay unpredictable, but a lot of those are gonna be high percentage throws to the backs and TEs, and he’ll take deep shots down the field. Don’t get me wrong, he knows how great our WRs are and he’s gonna get them the ball quick and in space and let them take care of the rest. Boutte and Nabers aren’t gonna need 8-10 catches to go over 100 yards with a couple of scores (though I wouldn’t be surprised if Kayshon has that many tomorrow). Like I said earlier, I think we’re gonna be very efficient and have a ton of yards after the catch.

And Daniels may very well throw for over 300. But if you think we’re just gonna have him winging it all over the middle of the field all game, you haven’t watched Kelly coach or heard him talk this year. I’d be surprised if Daniels throws it more than 25 times. And I’d bet just about everything I have he won’t be throwing it 35 unless we’re losing by a couple of scores. In which Nuss might have taken over by then. Because we won’t have to.

Just pulling this out of my arse, but I think the defense dominates, Goodwin and Cain get 15 carries each with Williams getting 8.

Daniels 13/20 130 1/1; 53yd rushing

Nuss: 11/19 120 2/0; 12yd rushing

How much would you like to bet?

All the more reason to NOT throw the ball 30 times. He wants to win, not see how many total yards we can rack up. I think you’re underestimating 2 things:

1) Matt House. If the defense can control the line and shut down FSU’s running game, he’s gonna be able to pick his spots and be very aggressive with some blitzes that are gonna lead to some big sacks and turnovers, giving us short fields. And BK’s gonna want to take advantage of our big, strong OL to wear FSU out. (Not to mention they are gonna be WAY better run blocking than pass pro early in the season).

2) How explosive our WRs are. They are not gonna need that many catches to get down the field. There’s not enough field for us to have 25 catches (unless we’re in an unexpected—and terrifyingly disappointing—shootout. And there’s no way he’s gonna let Daniels throw 35 times and complete much less than that. If he’s ever 17-35-ish, it’s because both Nuss and Howard are hurt. He is not scared to pull a QB who’s not getting it done.
