Such a joke people like Musberger calling the I formation the Power I. A power I has two fullbacks and a running back. The I has one fullback and a tailback. Get the shite straight.

You'd think he'd know that. I'm a casual fan, and that's very common knowledge to me. He covers sports for a living.

Oh boy does it just ruin my day when he says that.

This is why I prefer to listen to the radio at times rather than the aholes on TV today...

He's obviously never used the Stanford playbook on NCAA 14.

No it doesnt.

Power I has three backs. What they are called is not important.

There's no official description of what a "Power I" formation entails, but I agree with Rick here.
Any combination of 3 blockers, whether that's two fullbacks and a tight end or two tight ends and a fullback means Power I to me.

Pretend these are just dots without a specified position (meaning your second string "FB" doesn't have to be on the field here)
This is what is traditionally considered the power I formation
The "I form" is this, but trading that offset blocking back for a wideout. The Maryland I is this, with the offset blocking back behind the front lead blocker.
The I, power I, and Maryland I are distinct formations. Rick just likes pretending he's some X's and O's savant

While the power I does have 3 backs. Alignment is the important part. Power is 2 lead backs lined up side by side with a tailback behind them.

I always thought the Maryland I was 3 backs lined up one behind the other?
