re: Possible RB Coach from UT Tommie Robinson

seems like a good coach, but this hire needs to be a top notch recruiter. Otherwise we're putting a pretty heavy burden on O, Raymond, etc to do all of the work.

Miles will not hire a RB coach or any other assistant that does not have college coaching experience. If he does, it will be a drastic change So that eliminates Faulk, Vincent and Hester.....lets move on
Is this true or just an opinion?
most coaches get hired as position coaches from someone giving them a chance.
It just needs to be the RIGHT person IMO. There's really no rush to hire anyone at this point just make O the coordinator and raise his salary and contract ext.

Their first chance isn't usually at a top 10 program. Just like Frank had to go to UTSA to get head coaching experience. That's usually how it works....climb the ladder, you don't get to start at the top rung

Frank really helped keep what Saban established in NOLA.
Except that Dinardo really re-established the Louisiana recruiting base, generally (e.g. Faulk) and New Orleans, specifically, (among others, Herb Tyler, Rob Royal, Dwayne Pierce), I agree with you.

Y'all want Robinson?
You can have him.

I'd hardly consider the UT football program a "dumpster". We've certainly seen better days though...
Getting rid of some, if not all, of the current coaching staff would be an excellent start.

You were just a coach away when you fired mack, right?

Mack did get us a National Championship and we played in another.
Following the '09 seasons:
2010: 5-7 (2-6)
2011: 8-5 (4-5)
2012: 9-4 (5-4)
2013: 8-5 (7-2)
1-3 against Oklahoma. That's just not going to cut it. Mack, while a very good coach for us, got comfortable. A change was needed. We got Strong and (in my opinion) it isn't working out. If he produces similar results after next year, I expect a quick change. Tom Herman should be #1 on our list.

From the responses on this thread. Seems like bringing Porter back would fit ...
Recruiter of the year twice and was RB coach for Miles at Okl State and LSU...
I lived in Memphis when he killed them but it was obvious he was a Head Coach...
Not saying to hire him but I don't think it would be the worse thing. Better choice then UT Tommie Robinson...

Porter - I did not even think of this! Would be fantastic. Where is he now?

Way better.
Porter, Juluke, either Johnson formerly of Tulane - those are my top 4 choices, in no particular order (I do think Juluke and David Johnson are hot, young - I know, phrasing - up and comers, while Porter and Curtis Johnson are "safer" more stable choices, having already had their try at head coach.)
ETA: I think Porter would be the best "position" coach of the four. Curtis Johnson would almost have to coach WRs, perhaps sliding Tony Ball down to the RB position. Juluke and David Johnson (like Ball) could coach either position, IMHO.

Porter is at North Carolina and is making some where around $200,000 or south of it. We could easily get him from a money view.

Larry Porter
Jackson, Mississippi
Running Backs Coach
Age 43 yrs 9 mo

We could afford any of these guys. Curtis Johnson was just fired. David Johnson would take the LSU job without hesitation, I would think. LSU is Juluke's dream job. Porter has been here already.
If we start sliding down to the Tommie Robinsons of the world - now let me be fair to him. He would probably be an asset to recruiting in Florida (if we're going to let O recruit all those black kids out of New Orleans - if you're going to send an old white guy down there, the #1 on your list should be Ed Orgeron) and there are few questions about his ability to coach the position. However, I believe the void created by Wilson's departure would be filled most strongly by a black New Orleans native, preferably under 50 years old.
Just my $0.02.
